Except there are no Dolphins near Terrace

This sounds like some kids who can't play their instruments very well.
It sounded like a motor or some machinery at one point. I don't really see or ' hear' how it's coming from the sky.
The city is a basin surrounded by mountains and would amplify sounds wouldn't it?

I hear dragging too. I wondered if it was a machine scraping the road. I need to listen to it again

Listening to the full sound effects it doesn't sound like a train to me. I live right beside a railway. The trains are loud and sometimes come to a very loud grinding halt, screeching, scraping. It doesn't sound like a bad band practice like the video though.

This sounds exactly like the video sound!

Eveyone listen!

It does sound like it. What a creepy sound! Sounds like feedback on a mic.

I live in a small town in Northern BC, while I was at work I got a txt from a friend who lives in Terrace, a fairly large town a few hours away:

The whole town was shaken up, when in the morning of an otherwise perfectly peaceful day the skies boomed with this insanely loud 'noise' that then ended in a long, rolling boom. This was LOUD, it pretty much emptied every building in the city.

The sound quality on this is amazing, this is some of the best recorded data on this phenomena. My guess is some kind of spike of celestial radiation, perhaps not even something originating from our Sun, hitting our magnetosphere and ionosphere, and somehow 'punching through' where it resulted in this bizarre harmonic resonance in the sky.

Anyone else have a theory?

I'VE GOT A DECENT GUESS AS TO WHAT THIS MIGHT BE:

Acoustic Reflection and/or Amplification via Atmospheric Lensing

Take 2 gigawatts+, pump microwave or other RF (radio frequency)
and higher energies at a portion of the ionosphere or auroral electrojet
such that portion of the sky in question expands thus becoming less dense
and allowing an acoustic or other wave-like energy barrier to form which
can reflect and/or interfere with other radiation enough that acoustic
frequencies within our hearing range of less than 20,000 HZ (20KHz)
can be manifested on a wide-area basis.

Ergo, incoming radiation from the Sun or other types of cosmic radiation
can hit naturally occurring cool spots and hotspots within the
ionosphere which have formed "speakers in the sky" and thus
cause HUGE BLASTS of sound to be emitted and/or reflected!

HAARP (High Altitude Active Auroral Research Program) was recently
and officially shut down May/June of this year 2013 and this piece of
Alaskan-based technology had the power to pump ENORMOUS
bursts of energy into the ionosphere via the use of giant antennae
emitting enough power that they create atmospheric lenses INTENDED
to form GIANT RADAR reflectors in the sky which can then bounce
Millimetre or RF waves for ground-penetrating radar metrology
purposes or for advanced over the horizon communications or
even over-the-horizon aircraft/missile detection.

I would NOT be surprised that either by accident OR by intention
that SOUND was ALSO one of the energies reflected off and even
AMPLIFIED by the giant atmospheric lenses create by targeted
ionospheric heating via directed RF or higher energy radiation!

Since sound is ALSO radiation but at an energy level low enough
that we can HEAR IT with our own ears, it is more than possible
to create GIANT BLASTS OF MEGAPHONE-like sound that
can spread for HUNDREDS of square miles.

I highly suspect that those blasts of trumpets we're hearing
in places like Terrace BC are atmospheric lensing-based
acoustic REFLECTIONS or emissions.

In certain climes cloud cover, humidity levels, Aurora activity
geo-magnetic storms, incoming cosmic bursts all would have
an extended role to play in creating and/or re-directing these
blasts of sound.

The problem with attempts at scientific explanations like that one is that it fails dismally to explain why - if it a natural phenomenon - the sounds have not been reported for decades instead of just the past year or so. Using a lot of technical language to give the impression of a rigorous scientific explanation cannot convince anyone if it fails to explain basic facts about the nature and circumstances of the reported sounds.

Squidward, do you have any "dying mechanical elks" in there (Thanks Flossy)?
too funny

coming back from my last post... But seriously... I was going to say that.

The sounds are pretty-much one-time events in a given area.... shows that they are not man-made. For example, if the sounds occur again in BC, Canada, they will most likely be different.... why?

I played like 4 seconds of the video and got chills and had to turn it off. Something about that sound is just not right...

Something else about the sounds that is unique to them, is that they are sounds, plural. Almost never is it just one tone... like a couple of colossal monoliths communicating w/each other.

The best explanation so far that I've read in the replies? Trains.

But then I got to thinking. I myself live about a mile away from where trains go by and have never heard this sound. I also work literally right next to where trains frequently go by (they are right behind our parking lot) and I have never-ever heard trains sound like this - not even once, so....

...It's trains.

LOL. Just kidding!

It's probably not trains.

Interesting post, though.

It sounds like someone is pulling something made of metal across something (like a floor) mixed in with the sounds of a dying mechanical elk. Yes, I said a dying mechanical elk. (Roll the Twilight Zone theme song.)

It almost sounds like how it sounds, when I drill into metal, with too many revolutions per minute and too much tension on the drill. Multiplied by a few hundred of course.
But I dont know of any metal drills that big.

Underground drilling could be a possibility in my head atm. But its guessing on my side, I have no insight on underground drills, or if this kind of noise can be made when drilling into rocks.

My thought is that its a group prank, numerous people writing on to Twitter etc claiming something and then it takes off. I'm not saying its never happened before and was real elsewhere but this one has a video as said with ZERO people outside yet there's this incredible ear shattering noise that can't be understood as its real impact from a poorly encoded Youtube video and not one person is checking it out.

I find that impossible to consider.

Also, in the youtube clip there seems to be a audible thud where the noise ends and the normal winds start, at first I thought it was the auto record levels settling down but then I listened again and again and I then came to the conclusion that its the audio off another track stopping where its been mixed over the original audio.

Lastly, I hear very similar noises to that daily from a construction site about a mile away, the noise then echo's around the maze of small blocks of flats that are densely located so the noise gets very distorted and sounds very much like that noise.

The noise on the site is trucks dragging storage containers about and cranes, its deafening when you are near it. Me thinks the YT video is a mix of that and a stringed instrument and horn all mixed up.

Either that or its a fictional characters second coming

HAARP, possibly, magnetic fields in the upper atmosphere, very possible but this video being real, very unlikely

I don't know about the legitimate sounds there, but this video sounds like a woman's voice being distorted and played backwards. Listen to it. You can hear a woman's voice and there is even whispering. It was just distorted and played backwards along with another noise to accompany it. To me it is obvious.

It would be interesting if somebody has the software to take this audio and make it play backwards and see what it sounds like, then...hehe.

Okay, this is why I don't think it is trains.

When trains make this noise, it is similar to the high pitched part heard in the recording, but not the low pitched part. Also, when trains make that noise, they are moving, and the noise is always accompanied by the other sounds of trains moving, the sounds of the couplings slackening and pulling, and the cars rocking on the rails - which none of is heard in this recording.

Finally, this is similar to the other reports of the "trumpet-like" sounds heard around the world, and most people have heard trains, and I remember there was one report of the sound in Costa Rica, where it was heard across the whole country - so it obviously wasn't a train - and in fact trains are either extinct or rarely used there any more.

And for those who reject this because they say the whole town would be out on the streets - HELLO? I only clearly saw two other houses in the video, whose residents might be on vacation, working, kids at school, sleeping, watching TV loudly - that proves nothing, only that some people are more aware and observant than others, which shouldn't come as a shock to people on this site.

Here is another thread on ATS with quite a few reports from other places in the world, its my OPINION that we are not being told something, actually many things:

My first thought was it had something to do with the influx of radiation from Fukushima, they are on the west coast of Canada so they are in the direct 'line of fire.' I then read about the electromagnetic storms someone linked to and those sound plausible as well. I also saw someone post a bible scripture relation to 'trumpets from the sky' and I tend to keep an open mind so if we look at this not literally but figuratively, I think this could possibly be what that verse was referring to as 'trumpets from the sky' meaning they also heard this phenomena back then. So honestly I have no clue, but it sure is weird.

Why they were scraping at 7:30 am is beyond me.

There's road works outside my house at the moment (laying a lot tarmac) and i've been hearing a similar sound, just not quite as sustained.

To prevent effecting traffic they're working between 7pm and 5am (guess cars are more important than people getting some sleep), so maybe thats the reason this was heard at 7.30am ?

Nobody finds it strange that in ALL of these videos, no neighbors are out in the streets looking around? That it's always a LONE camerman looking around? You don't think there would be people running outside with their heads cocked back saying literally "WHAT THE F... IS THAT SOUND"?????
Exactly my thoughts on these videos. Also, you would also expect there to be more than one video of each event.

If that happened here, i know for a fact that i would not be the only one going outside to check it out, or record it on my phone.
