A genius boy whose IQ is higher than Albert Einstein is on his way to possibly winning a Nobel Prize after being set free of special education programs in public schools. His mother made the decision to take him out of the programs, even after having doctors diagnose him with ADD and say that her son Jacob Barnett would never even learn to tie his shoes.
She describes in her book “The Spark: A Mother’s Story of Nurturing Genius” that she was afraid of trying to pull him out of school. “For a parent, it’s terrifying to fly against the advice of the professionals. But I knew in my heart that if Jake stayed in special ed, he would slip away.”
Jacob was not thriving in special ed classes. He kept turning deeper into himself and was uncommunicative with other people. His doctors diagnosed ADD and prescribed medical treatment for the boy. When he wasn’t in therapy though, his mother noticed him doing amazing things. “He would create maps all over our floor using Q-tips. They would be maps of places we’ve visited and he would memorize every street.”
Jake dropped out of elementary school in the 5th grade. His incredible memory allowed him to attend university classes after he learned all of high school math in two weeks. Now he’s on track to graduate from college at age 14 and working on theories to build on Einstein’s theory of relativity.
How mature a child is compared to his peers may partly determine how likely he is to be diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to a new study. This finding validates concerns that the condition is misdiagnosed, researchers say.
"We believe that younger children may be mistakenly diagnosed as having ADHD, when in fact they are simply less mature," study researcher Melinda Morrill said in a statement.
The characteristic behaviors associated with ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, according to the National Institutes of Health. Rising rates of ADHDand large differences in diagnosis rates have led to fears that the condition is not accurately diagnosed.
Accurate diagnosing is crucial, the researchers say, because stimulant medicationsare often prescribed as a treatment for ADHD. The stimulants have side effects, including insomnia, stomachache, headache, dizziness and decreased appetite, and they have been shown to increase heart rates and blood pressure. Little is known about their long-term effects.
Youngest are 50 percent more likely to get ADHD diagnosis
The new findings are consistent with those of another forthcoming study that suggests children born just before the kindergarten cutoff date are 50-percent more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than those born just after, Morrill and her colleagues write in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Health Economics.

If your different you will be diagnosed, its that simple. Why? Because the purpose of school is to produce a standardized citizen that does as its told. If your different you might start asking awkward questions!
15 years in school, and when they come out they have to be trained to flip burgers in Mac D's.
FIFTEEN YEARS!
What a waste!
"In our dreams, we have limitless resources and the people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hands. The present education conventions fade from their minds, and unhampered by tradition, we work our own good will upon a grateful and responsive rural folk. We shall not try to make these people or any of their children into philosophers or men of learning, or men of science. We have not to raise up from among them authors, editors, poets or men of letters. We shall not search for embryo great artists, painters, musicians nor lawyers, doctors, preachers, politicians, statesmen, of whom we have an ample supply…The task we set before ourselves is very simple as well as a very beautiful one, to train these people as we find them to a perfectly ideal life just where they are. So we will organize our children and teach them to do in a perfect way the things their fathers and mothers are doing in an imperfect way, in the homes, in the shops and on the farm." - General Education Board, Occasional Papers

A Rockefeller foundation that help shape public education in this country.
Difficulties staying on task - People who have attention deficit disorder are easily distracted by what is going on around them. This can make for problems in a traditional classroom setting.
Inattentiveness - A tendency to get lost in their own world. Time may pass before they become aware again. Chunks of time can be "lost" when this occurs.
Excessive Talking
Excessive interruptions and intrusions on other's conversations and personal space.
Aggression - Some people with ADHD are aggressive with other people and may seem "pushy".
Difficulty finishing projects - Someone with attention deficit hyperactivitiy disorder may have multiple projects that are only partially done. Many children with ADHD do not complete their homework or do not turn it in when done.
Type "A" personality - May go so far as to take risks without thinking of the consequences.
Forgetfulness - This can affect doing projects that take steps to complete, missing appointments, forgetting names and places...
Hyperactivity - It may seem that a person with ADHD cannot sit still. In fact, many can't be completely still. If forced to sit or stand in one place, a child or adult may tap their fingers, chew on a pencil, bounce a ball... or do anything to keep themselves in action.
Note: Many with ADHD defy the typical signs and instead exhibit a tendency to daydream or appear to be "lazy".
The Symptoms of Autism:
Inability to empathize with other people - A lack of an understanding of the emotions and reactions of the people around them.
Inability to communicate with others - this varies in degree from having trouble staying on the subject of conversation to an inability to communicate at all. This may not only impact social interaction, but education as well.
Repetitive Behaviors - This may involve actively repeating the same actions or saying the same sound, word or phrase over and over again.
Obsession with putting things in a straight line - A tendency to line things up and be wildly upset if the line is disrupted is a sign of autism.
Isolation - Someone who is autistic may seem to be in their own world. In fact, many who have autism will panic or over-react to stimulation.
Hyperfocusing - A child or adult might stare at one object for lengthy amounts of time.

Makes you wonder how many other geniuses the system has destroyed. Disgusting.
You have to wonder if this whole autism thing is an evolutionary leap in process. Maybe we're witnessing the birth of the next species of human.
