If calling on Jesus genuinely ended these abduction experiences, then I suspect the experiences were vivid hallucinations, dreams or delusions, and that some sort of placebo effect was involved.

If we were truly alone and life only existed on this planet, then it would be a tremendous waste of space. That would be terribly inefficient and what's that old saying? Nature abhors a vacuum. What life we have here on earth is an indicator of how diverse and resilient life can be. We've found life 1.7 miles beneath the surface of the earth, underneath the Antarctic ice, life in the upper atmosphere, and in areas so hot and acidic that it would kill all other life. Our universe could very well be teeming with life and we simply do not have the technology yet to make that discovery, especially since we're continuously discovering life where it was unexpected within our own biosphere.

I'm not an expert on the tether incident, but it's notoriously difficult for non-experts to interpret space imagery.

More generally, I don't have much time for theories about NASA involvement in a UFO cover-up. Firstly, there's the central absurdity that the main 'evidence' for these claims is photos and videos that NASA itself has freely put out. Secondly, if anything, NASA is too keen on this issue. Look at their handling of the Martian meteorite saga in 1996, and the more recent handling of Felissa Wolfe-Simon's Mono Lake microbes. Most scientists were much more cautious about all this. Put simply, NASA would love to find aliens and would shout it from the rooftops if they did.

Given that the answers we really want are unavailable due to the oath Mr. Pope took as a member of the MoD, I think it can be expected that a lot of his responses will skirt around the stuff we are getting at, whether we are coy with our questions or not.

I think the most rewarding thing I've done in all of this is in using television to engage with people (particularly young people) on this issue and make them think about the possibilities. After all, what question could be bigger or more profound than "Are we alone, or not, in the Universe"?

Hello Mr. Pope! Thanks for doing this, the thread is exploding!

Questions: What is under Area 51 ? Do you have any info on Area 51? Does it really go for miles underground?

Do you know of any research or test facility for testing new propulsion systems such as anti-gravity or (for lack of a better term) warp drive?

Thanks again be being here it really makes us crazy conspiracy folks seem less crazy when a real person who has worked with these types of files comes and says hello.

Unofficial MoD chatter and water cooler moments about all this? Hearing hypothetical UFO occupants described as "these people" - a wonderful phrase that left open the possibility that we were talking about Russians, while allowing us to speculate about more exotic possibilities. Speculating that if we're being visited, reasons might include tourism! The idea even found its way into a DIS think piece on the subject. This always gets a laugh when I tell the anecdote in lectures, but it's actually a fair point. We're unlikely to have much to teach visiting extraterrestrials about science and technology, so their interests are likely to be in more abstract things: anthropology, art, literature, architecture, etc.

Hi Nick, nice to see you here again.
I am not sure if you read my question i posted yesterday regarding the Rendlesham Forest "Incident"
Myself an three others believe we saw the same "Craft" a day earlier on the 24th December 1980 in Warwickshire. My question to you was "Had you had any further reports of the craft being sighted elsewhere in the UK before or after it appeared at Rendlesham"?
Thank for being here to answer our questions.

Mr. Pope, have you done any investigation on the Skinwalker Ranch phenomenon? If so, how do the purported ample inter-dimensional activities contrast with your belief or non-belief in inter-dimensional traversing of UFOs?

I would say that someone who had/has a security clearance and worked in a position at the MoD knows a lot more than some random person on ATS who only came into the thread to bash a well respected guest.

Take your arrogance somewhere else.

hello mr. pope,

i hope you dont mind if i add something to my initial question.

the Swedish navy is now interested in the "baltic anomaly" ( the object discovered by wreck hunters in the baltic sea in 2011)

i´m wondering- do you know of any similar cases of submerged objects like the "baltic anomaly "?

thanks again for answering questions here.

I was wondering. What your thought that some of the UFO could be human time travelers from the future?

And notice... no stars for pointing that out... ATS is becoming a real joke. I suggest all truth seekers to abandon ship!

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to, but I will say that I very much appreciate Mr. Pope taking time out of his very busy life to answer our questions and humor our slightly-less-than-realistic curiosity. As he has already told me specifically, his greatest reward in educating the youths of our world. The younger you are, the bigger the part you have in our future, right? So teach 'em all you can. I admire that in him. He's got a very respectable balance of both professional approach and flexible perspective going on. Even if he can't tell you all of what he has or knows, he can still tell you how to get some of it and what difference it's made for him.

So if you don't like what he has to offer, there's a little red 'x' in the corner of your browser window that should provide immediate relief if you click on it and never come to this site again. I'm assuming that's an appropriate solution, given your attitude and expectations so far. No one made you come here, and you're more than welcome to leave and find a more rewarding means of wasting your time elsewhere.

Hallo Mr Pope good to see you here.

Did you have much to do with Scottish UFO reports? East coast in particular. I have observed strange objects on a number of occasions, not military or civilian craft. I am ex RAF so pretty sure on that unless they were prototype aircraft of course.

Much appreciate your reply. Thanks.
