It's something I thought about having done in the past, but am skeptical now. I do feel it's a data gathering ploy. At this point, companies will pay big money and the US will too if it wants the info, if let's say it can't get it otherwise(Obamacare?).

This stuff can be technical and you may not want to know the answer.

I know a guy that had the DNA test for family research. They told him that his DNA didn't match his surname. They told him this not even knowing that the surname his DNA shows was in fact close neighbors back about 5 generations on the census.

20% sounds like a reasonable number.

have you read the tutankeamun conspiracy by gerrald o'farrel you might wonder what was going on in egypt in ww1 and ww2

No I haven't thanks always out for some more good reading!

Oh wow this looks great. Hope they have a kindle copy.

Also the presence of certain art treasures in museums across the United States provides evidence that Howard Carter and his aristocratic patron removed priceless objects from the tomb. What is not so well known is that among the wonderful treasures Carter and Carnarvon unearthed were also rumoured to be papyri that held the "true account" of the biblical Exodus from Egypt. Why did Carter threaten to reveal this volatile information to the public at a meeting with a British official in Cairo shortly after the discovery of the tomb?

Not only do these papyri potentially question Israel's rights in Palestine, but the book argues they could have changed world history had their contents been disclosed. Moreover, in the knowledge that Lord Carnarvon exhibited distinct signs of toxic poisoning in his final days, and the fact that he knew full well of the discovery of the papyri, the authors suggest that foul play cannot be ruled out.

Has anybody else noticed this commercial running on TV recently. It's for a company that does DNA testing fairly cheaply. In the commercial, they make the reasons for knowing who you are sound fairly benign, such as learning about possible health issues and learning about your ancestry. But.....?

As a dot connector, do you find yourself thinking that this could just be another data gathering ploy?

We have Ancestry.com that has collected billions of bits of information about families' ancestries and connections.

We have NSA spying and gathering data on regular citizens.

We have the UN and government leaders pushing to control free user access to the Internet.

Sometimes I get the feeling that "THEY" are desperately searching for a particular 'SOMEBODY'....

Why DNA?

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this yet but, could it be that it is a company trying to make money with their expertise?

Just a thought.

CFR member and former National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski wrote the following in 1970:

“The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values.

Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen. These files will be subject to instantaneous retrieval by the authorities.”

Heck of a science fiction writer, ahem.

Well of course money making is always involved. I think we just figure money is the bonus to whatever the real point is.

When they've got your dna, they really know all about you. I've heard law enforcement is in the business of collecting dna on everyone they arrest now. And we know their database is pretty sharp and large. This new idea, just takes the arrest step out of it.

Is your avatar you? If so you look like that guy in Person of Interest.

Information is the new gold. How to mine for it through business, government, etc. is becoming a new industry in and of itself.

Like many projects and programs, there is the good and beneficial side that is pushed and promoted. The darker side, however, is the possibility that the information obtained is for a more sinister or more nefarious purpose.

I think it is just what it is, a company that is advertising its business.

I agree that the government would like to have all of our information, but I just dont see how this would be an effective approach of collecting dna, since the vast majority of people isn't interested in it.

Yes that's me. Never heard that one before. A girl once said I looked like the guy from Prison Break though.

I think 'they' are looking for somebody or a group of somebodies. I don't know who "they" are. I'll just call them the agenda-makers and they have their hands and $$$ in all kinds of pies.

The fact that one of the biggest data miners of information, Google, is invested in this company makes me think more than just helping us common folks find our heritage and susceptibility to particular diseases is on the agenda.

The company itself is probably just what it says it is, but the DNA data banks they amass will be worth a fortune. At some point, the agenda-makers will make their offer.

If this really was an important objective you would see much more action from the government to accomplish something like that.

How many people will make use of that company you think?

Again, it is not an effective way to gather DNA from a large part of the population.

Too many people mistrust the government nowadays. I don't think there would be much voluntary cooperation. But, actually, I don't know if it is the country's government I'm worried about, or just some shadow operatives within and around it....maybe even global agenda-makers.

In 2012, their customer base was 180,000 and with the reduction in price from $999 to $299 then $99, their goal has increased to one million according to info from Wiki. That's just in a year.

Why not? They advertise with commercials on TV, promote it efficiently, you buy the kit, follow the instructions, send it in, and wait for the results. Sounds pretty effective to me.

We have all broken copyright law at some point or another whilst using the internet.

A database of DNA for the populace (bio-metrics,) will make it much easier to punish all of us criminals perhaps.

I think this, and all the info on the geneology sites, is compiled and will be used in some way to determine which of us are in certain "categories" which will be concentrated and done away with when the eugenics kicks into high gear.

From seeing the commercial I get the impression that the people behind this are looking for "the one." Someone that has near perfect genes for perfect health. Essentially, a walking cure-all. It's possible considering many viruses and diseases have evolved and adapted to our drugs. Many things have become antibiotic resistant. Maybe pharmaceutical companies and scientists have run out of ideas. Think of it as a rare human that has evolved slightly beyond us...has never had surgery, never been sick, etc. It would make sense that they would be looking for this person since there would be next to no medical records on them. Of course if that were the case, they could've used the process of elimination to find this person(s). Perhaps there is a walking Wolverine out there...

The state of Minnesota was taking blood/DNA samples from every newborn there, and putting it into files, until someone found out and sued.

I'm sure that didn't stop the gov't - they just don't tell you anymore.

They are also looking for psychological info from DNA - not just medical - or for criminal behaviors/crime.

I, believe, they are also looking for something/someone else, also.

It's really quite hilarious that they are fixating on everyone's "I'm special" programming to get people to actually pay money for this. And, of course, the celebrity endorsements "Angelinal Jolie cuts off her breasts because her DNA says she might get breast cancer story"

You all make very good points.

I didn't realize it was so cheap and easy. I hadn't watched the vid I am ashamed to say, my bad.

In that case a lot more will be interested.

Interesting theory.

I sure wouldn't do it even if it were free.

I see what you mean,I'm just thinking, would they not make dna testing compulsory+free for the poor,if they were seriously searching for a certain family line with whatever genetic properties they were looking for?Interesting premise though,OP+i must say,one that has crossed my mind also-with all the feverish spying+snooping.

A tool to be used to determine who gets it in the future depopulation exercise that will be necessary!

Yep very interesting indeed;

1st Gen Analyzer. individual operation cost $1k.
2nd Gen Analyzer. individual operation cost $300
3rd Gen Analyzer. individual operation cost $100.

I guess the next generation will be totally free.
