Comets have been proven to contain biological elements. There origin would mean we have no immunity against the invading virus/bacteria. Strange things have been falling to Earth alot recently.

I would not attribute any plague to a comet... although anything is possible. I think that EnochWasRight was saying that it was a sign for Euro-centric readers... which most of us are (unless we are in the US... which is an offshoot of Europe).

The Black Death was likely Yersinia pestis and not bubonic plague.

well it is about time we get a new celestial body that is threatening our existence.

Every time a comet journeys inward to loop around the Sun, there are a group of people that will immediately try to pin doom on it. It has been that way throughout recorded history. If there is no scenario that could possibly make it a threat, they will basically make stuff up in an attempt to achieve that end.

We can understand why ancients feared anything like this, lacking any knowledge of what they really were, but even today, with all of the study and exploration of comets past and ongoing, there are those that would rather paint a negative, fearful image on to these celestial wonders, rather than rejoice in the opportunity to observe one of nature's most interesting spectacles.

It says something about our humanity. If there is not enough present darkness, we will create some to balance the scale. Do we, however, put that much effort in creating light and goodness?

Those of no faith only speak about the doom and gloom for they do not understand what's before them... A Cleansing Of The Wicked That Dwell Here For A Long Day Of Peace as the cycle repeats... Actually, it is kind of what I was eluding to earlier. It is a ball of primordial dirty ice and carbonaceous material hurled in from the asteroid belt or oort cloud. It has nothing to do with Noah, whatever the x coming is, and any other pseudo-religious tag you want to put on it. It is a product of the organization of what we call our solar system and trying to put any other wrapper on it is just a foolish remnant of what people without this level of technology did for thousands of years prior.

As long as it don't drop in my neck of the woods! Guess I should start digging that foxhole under my house deeper....

Gonna need a longer shovel, one with a 500 foot handle...
