Ancient hobbit-sized human species discovered
"In an astonishing discovery that could rewrite the history of human evolution, scientists say they have found the skeleton of a new human species, a
dwarf, marooned for eons in a tropical Lost World while modern humans rapidly colonized the rest of the planet."
18,000-year-old specimen
The 3-foot-tall (90-centimeter-tall) adult female skeleton found in a cave is believed 18,000 years old. Scientists have named the extinct species
Homo floresiensis, or Flores Man
An artist's rendering of Homo floresiensis.
This finding really does rewrite our knowledge of human evolution, said Chris Stringer, who directs human origins studies at the Natural History
Museum in London. And to have them present less than 20,000 years ago is frankly astonishing.
It seems we humans had a tiny cousins in the not to distant past. 18,000yrs ago that was really the long ago in human evolution. Could these small
hobbit like people have been where we get myths of dwarfs, elfs, little people?
Scientists have already start nicknaming the little guys Hobbits
