We (Freemasons) are not trying to take over the world (If we were I'd have a better job). We can barely organize a decent blood drive for gosh sakes.
What can the US President do?!?!? Well, considering that he has that little sachel following him around with all the nuclear codes in it,... quite a bit...
Face it. The USA is the worlds only remaining Superpower. We have a lot of money relative to the rest of the world, we have the most powerful military, we are relatively benign unless attacked. There is nothing secret about any of this. The "special" thing that allowed this stuff to happen was a combination of a good geographical location for the USA, progressive thinkers who started our Republic, and the terrific influence of dozens of cultures who have contributed to our population... Again,... nothing secret about it.

Then what power does the American president really have? Would he just be the voice of a hidden human with larger power?
Would it even matter who we voted for?

I don't agree with that - what ever happened to China? They are definately (if not already, becoming) a superpower. Taking the total size of the armed forces as a measure of its power (fairly generally), the US has 1.4 million military personnel (2001), whereas China has 2.2 million. That's nearly twice the size.
...
Of course, the size of the armed forces does not define a superpower, but America is in no way the only superpower, or at least, barely - with a few more on the horizon.
IF the NWO exists, they would have a lot more than just the President to look after.
(EDIT: forgot reference for those numbers: UN Human Development Report 2003 - Human Development Indicators appendix)
