I LOVE so much of what you say in virtually all your posts on all threads.

. . . on this score . . .

I lived in Asia for 15+ years . . . in one country . . . we never knew where officials were going to take us or what would be required of us. We all quickly developed the habit of insuring that our backpacks had TP, water, snack etc. . . . and, I usually had a host of other things. A lot of that would be useful when we happened to end up picnicking.

Very often students and/or colleagues would ask "Dr B, do you have a _____" And very often, I would have a ____.

I loved being of service to others in those ways.

I've now carried a backpack with me virtually everywhere for more than 25 years. It's not a bona fide Bugout bag but it does have a number of useful things in it. It's been worth it as almost every time I"ve left it behind for a quick something (probably less than 5-10 times in 25 years), I've regretted it.

I CERTAINLY realize that the most equipped backpack can end up taken, stolen, broken, lost in a flood, struck by lightening, whatever . . . And, when the angel of God shows up at my door at 04:00 in the morning, I hope I can immediately leave with whatever the angel decrees without a 2nd thought--even out of the shower, if necessary.

Nevertheless, for however long, to whatever degree a backpack could help me lovingly be of service to hurting people around me, I'd be happy to have prepared it and carried it.

I certainly agree that WHAT WE THINK is crucial

particularly what we think about God and how intimately we relate to Him--well before disaster and certainly in the midst of it!
