Because at some point the commercialization will be outlived and the need to eliminate communication will become paramount.

I'm trying to figure out if you even thought this little (as you make it seem) scenario through. If you think a pulled plug is going to bring you "simple days" you're delusional. It'll take you days to mentally play out all the different scenarios of the effect it would have on our currency alone. The day TPTB pull this "plug" kiss your planet goodbye because it'll throw every internet-dependent nation back into the stone age and we'd wipe ourselves out.edit on 28-7-2013 by FidelityMusic because: (no reason given)

I see too much interglobal commerse going on for what you suggest. The net is here to grow up and be come an AI,I think.

The internet would never "Go down" the powers that think they
are in charge can do what they will, but as we all know to many
hackers out there that would step up and find a way around
anything the ones wanting to take it down.
Hackers wouldn't even need to step in.. the government simply can't shut the internet down.. the "internet backbone" consists of six tier one providers that make up the core infrastructure of the internet, they are corporate entities that provide internet connections to smaller tier companies .. there are three tiers, tier 2 and tier 3 have far more companies in them.
Those tier 1 companies are:
Level 3 Communications
CenturyLink
Cable & Wireless Worldwide
UUNet
Sprint and AT&T Corporation
Genuity.
To really kill the internet you have to take out those six companies that have data centers all over the world.. every internet connection that is made, every request to a website.. goes through one or more of those networks.
The only thing the government "controls" are the internet root zones and even then, it doesn't actually operate those servers.. it just approves, rejects or requests the removal of domain names from the databases.. which would also not kill the internet.
The notion that TPTB have some kind of on off switch for the internet is absurd if you really know how it all works.. You have the six tier one providers that then provide connections to tier two companies, and tier two provides to tier three .. then you get the spidering out of internet connections to companies and homes all over the world, like one giant spiderweb,
It's impossible to take out the internet.. you can only disrupt it in pieces.. the only thing that would really kill the net would be a massive EMP pulse that took out power grids all over the world ... pandora's box has been opened, there's no way of putting the internet back inside.
Anyone who thinks the internet will "POOF" and disappear just doesn't understand how it works.. it was conceived to be resilient with redundancy, and evolved specifically to have no "central command" .. no single point of failureedit on 7/28/2013 by miniatus because: (no reason given)

I've read a number of your replies and observations on this and similar threads. I believe you bring credible contributions about how ISP's and how the Internet works. However, I would not totally rule out the possibility that there is some way to interrupt or even prevent transmission or reception of communication via the internet.
What intrigues me is the idea and some evidence that there is an alternate, or in other words, a second World Wide Web (WWW) that is super secret, controlled by the government and is used for secret encrypted messages that none of us see or can use only TPTB. For unknown reasons, should the internet as we know it should fail and/or collapse, I believe our government and certain allies have access to this secret, second internet that only they no about, and no one else. Something to think about?

If you believe it, prove it. Otherwise, we will continue laughing.
So...show us you are ready spiritually. You sound deceitful and sarcastic to me...not really very spiritual at all. Nor your "source".
The "THEY-TPYB" is not any one thing. Neither is the internet. They both are many things. Not just a single group as you believe with their finger on one switch to turn off the net.
