I loathe America, and what it has done to the rest of the world...

Another article-opinion that impressed me,
here we go:

I knew that the wave of anti-Americanism that would swell up after the Iraq war would make me feel ill. And it has. It has made me much, much more ill than I had expected.

My anti-Americanism has become almost uncontrollable. It has possessed me, like a disease. It rises up in my throat like acid reflux, that fashionable American sickness. I now loathe the United States and what it has done to Iraq and the rest of the helpless world.

I can hardly bear to see the faces of Bush and Rumsfeld, or to watch their posturing body language, or to hear their self-satisfied and incoherent platitudes. The liberal press here has done its best to make them appear ridiculous, but these two men are not funny.

I was tipped into uncontainable rage by a report on Channel 4 News about "friendly fire", which included footage of what must have been one of the most horrific bombardments ever filmed. But what struck home hardest was the subsequent image, of a row of American warplanes, with grinning cartoon faces painted on their noses. Cartoon faces, with big sharp teeth.

Wher's the news, where the information? An opinion of someone who is safer because someone else steps up to the plate. A Brit who could care less if the rest of America is blown apart. The person might as well have been another ignorant American who's mindset is "Protect me, oh government, but do it by firing posies, honeysuckles and rose pettles at those who want to rip my guts out!"

About as useful an article as anything written by Norman Mailer.

First off "Daisey Cutter" isn't a weapon of mass destruction, it pains me to see the author of this article to be so stupid.

Furthermore TC is right, this idiot sits safely in his chair wherever, tapping away at the keyboard, not having to dodge the Gestapo...and just because he doesn't need to be liberated by us, he gets pissed that we liberate someone else.

If he were in Iraq he'd be cheering too.

Some day, the world will burn and a few will remember the echos of America, until a time, far beyond our great great great grandchildren's time, where to the common masses all freedom and hope has been lost, that echo will shake the foundations of the world.

Really TC, this article is "opinion", opinion is based on facts. The lady is telling you how she feels about your country. It's a feeling that is increasingly common in the UK, and across the world. Doesn't this frighten you at all?

This woman is saying that your entire culture is becoming obsessed with violence and war, but that you don't understand what that implys, hence your disney aircraft dropping bombs that kill people. US soldiers shooting civilians, and none of you care, because they're not American civilians, just foreigners. As a good Christian would put it; God Help You.

I fail to see how the USA "saved" Britian im mean im gratful they came in eventual but i think with the help of are allies who were fighting aswell we would of won maby not as soon but that isnt the point of this thread is it.

The image i rember most of the recent gulf war was a group of yank's firing a missle at a house all wooping like idiots as it rushed off to its target.

Anyway that was in the BRITISH colonies, yes, the british came, killed the natives and indigens of the americas and then all started, declared the independence in 1776... Well, at least we don't have to experience what the alternative would have been. Whose to say if the allies would have defeated the Axis without the US? Maybe you would have. But, thats been a long time ago and I doubt you were there for it and I dare say that the poor souls who were wouldn't want you to make that decision for a politcial argument and them have to live or die with the result.

Oooo, a busy thread, ok a few things to say.

The US won both world wars - false. The US may have shortened WW1 by a few months, but their contribution was not overly significant. In WW2 it's undoubtedly the case that without US help the UK would have been swallowed up by Nazi Germany. I much prefer the way things actually happened, and I truly appreciate the sacrifices made by many US families whilst trying to liberate Europe. Truly. That said, I don't have to agree with everything the US do, just because of this.

SeaBass - The US should just act responsibly within the international structures. Going to the UN to try and gain legitimacy for a decision you've already made is not the same as going to the UN to try to solve a problem with the help of all the other major countries. US actions over GW2 just appeared arrogant, and very unilateral. Particularly when this is pre-emptive war, a war which didn't involve a clear and present threat to the US. That kind of war is unprecedented and should have been carried out with a great deal of care. It wasn't. That's the problem.

Shining - Well, it's nice to know you think I'm ignorant. I assure you I'm not ignorant, but I obviously do have a different opinion to you. You fulfilled my typical US response anyway, "if it was not for the USA you would probably all be spreaking German or Russian right now"... yep, I've heard this before. Honestly, I like quite most Americans that I've met, I only dislike a few that I've personally spoken to, it's just American foreign policy that I dislike intensely. There is also an element of American society which is quite selfish, which I also dislike, which might be the fault of the individuals, but I'd say it was institutional. Ultimately I don't think the US has always done things for the right reaons. Removing democratically elected socialist governments and replacing them with fascist pro-US dictatorships gives the US a pretty poor record of nation building. I simply don't trust your country to do a good job now.

To a point, yes. You have to take the good with the bad - no society is perfect, even where YOU come from, CoLD. True, there is a lot of violence in the good old USA, but for all that violence there are 10X as many places that are pretty much "utopia". I am fortunate to live in one of those places.

You may think we're the "big bad bullies" of the world, but everything we do (that you think is bad) is for a good reason. Those dumbasses that protest every move our country makes apparently are not looking at the "big picture", the world as a whole.

America is made up of people (from all over the world) who weren't just content to leave things as is, but who wanted to see what's over that next hill, and who said "Know what? We could make this better."

From what I know (if you know otherwise on these, by all means, enlighten me), we were the first to mass use automobiles for transportation, develop airlines and air travel, develop telephone networks, the internet, radio and television stations, motion pictures, and a host of other world contributions to society in general. All this whining frankly makes me sick. The next time you want to hate America so much, think about how your life would be without us, and what you'd be doing right now without these contributions (playing cards?)...
