Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 – July 15, 1940) is the tallest person in history for whom there is irrefutable evidence. Wadlow is sometimes known as the Alton Giant or Giant of Illinois because he was born and grew up in Alton, Illinois.[1][2]
Wadlow reached 8 ft 11.1 in (2.72 m)[3][4][5] in height and weighed 439 lb (199 kg) at his death at age 22. His great size and his continued growth in adulthood were due to hyperplasia of his pituitary gland, which results in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone. He showed no indication of an end to his growth even at the time of his death.
The largest species of Carnivora ever to have existed is a fossil bear that lived in North America 800,000 to 12,500 years ago: the Short-Faced Bear (Arctodus). Its closest living relative is the spectacled bear of the Andes.
Arctodus doubled a grizzly bear in size: it was 183 cm (6 ft) tall at the shoulder on all four legs, and raised up 3.35 m (11 ft) tall. It weighed up to 900 kg (2,000 pounds).

There was a blog I read recently (maybe in the past year) over at the Huffington Post. They have a section there titled "weird news". Anyway, this blogger wrote about the strange things he has encountered in his life as he traveled the world. I wish I could remember this blogger's name or find the story, but I am sorry I cannot (and I tried searching already).
But, if I recall correctly, his story was that he was on some sort of an archeological expedition deep in the Amazon (I think) and inside a cave, they discovered a giant frozen cyclops. He claims the government was notified of the discovery and they were ordered to ignore it and dynamite the entrance to the cave so that no one would be able to locate the giant cyclops ever again.
LOL It was quite a story and I wish I could remember the blogger's name. He had a website of his own and stuff. He was a new age type of guru or something if memory serves me correctly.
