what national implications?

Probably that it has caused division nation wide and if Obama uses it in his argument for gun control that will impact the whole nation

Its funny how they took a run of the mill shooting and turned it into a huge national deal. If it was the other way around and Martin shot Zimmerman, this would have been a non-story. It would have just been a footnote in the local paper in the particular area.

You can go around to the many ghetto's around the USA and find cases like this. Why this case? Because a black guy was shot by another race? What about the hundreds of black on black deaths that take place monthly? Why not put those into the spotlight too?

So what is really going on here? Seriously. I dont think its as simple as media lottery either.

Martin didn't have the gun, and even if he was a thug, that doesn't mean he deserved to be shot and killed.

Normally I would be right there swiping too, I really don't hold back in my criticism of Obama and the damage he's done to America and trust around the world. He is without a doubt the worst president in US history, simply because of his abuse of the Constitution, the bold faced lies, the continuation of illegal practices and the loss of trust and increased sense of betrayal he's given millions of young Americans who actually had hope and voted.

But, in this case, I agree with you. The man hasn't said anything about gun control, he's just stated that perhaps things need to be done to try to stop these things from happening in the future. From what I understand, Zimmerman had a record, but he was still able to own a gun. There is something very wrong with that in my opinion.

Are people now saying that it's perfectly fine for people with criminal records to continue to own guns? What about restrictions? Or is it just a case of having one rule for some, and another for everyone else, depending on who a person supports in a story like this?

It's pretty hypocritical for people to scream about everyone's right to own a gun, when there are plenty of restrictions on other less harmful things. What about alcohol to teens, or cigarettes? If it's all about personal rights, surely everything should be legal?

The whole gun issue always collapses into irrational arguments, blatant BS with faked statistics, hypocritical statements and bombastic arguments. The same is going to happen here.

Obama has just said something that could cover all kinds of things from mental health services to increased strength of gun licenses. The knee-jerk attackers will twist this into the usual nonsense of "they're coming to take our guns!!!!!"

We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that’s a job for all of us. That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin."

Obama's talkin about how we can curb gun violence. Cuz people shouldn't have the right to defend themselves in this country.

I agree with the president. We should start by disbanding our military and police forces. They are the two largest gangs on the planet. I staunchly believe there should be no armies, and there should be no means with which to control a population.

This person is correct. Those soldiers willingly gave their life up for the US government. There should never be an outcry as a result of wounded or killed warriors. They chose their path, and if they did not want to be wounded, then apparently they chose wrong. I have no sympathy for wounded warriors.

i think you are correct in some sense, that if he didn't say anything people would attack him but I dont think he would have mentioned any of this other than passing comment if it was a white person, i dont believe that George Zimmerman would have been taken to court, almost losing his freedom over doing what he believed was right if the victim would have been white.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who have taken to once again rattle their heads about thinking how they can take this for their own propaganda are two of the biggest racists on the planet, they believe that anything done against someone who is black or not white is racist. it is the same when it comes to the man in the white house, who should be known as the Celebrity wannabe President, he is more concerned with forcing people to live by his rules rather than the rules that their country stands for.

This is how i see this going, he will take away guns, he will take away most freedoms and eventually will remove the idea of voting and all the while people like yourself who seems to think that everyone wants a chance to swipe at Obama is a racist and wrong until it is too late and you are pledging to Obama rather than the American Flag.

What will it take for Americans (I'm British and yes im aware we have our own knobs in power) to see where their country is going, American government is slowly becoming a one person government with Obama at the top and everyone at the bottom.

Well, last I checked we have an all volunteer force. Outside of a draft, which has not happened in over 40 years, no one is forcing those 18 yos to enlist.

Guaranteed a whole heck of a lot less young people would be volunteering if there were jobs available stateside. Everything is tied together in this attempted take-down of America, imo...

The most important thing he and DOJ can do right now is grab some shade with
this potboiler-- so the American people have their eyes off the real curve balls
smacking them in the collective temple. Trayvon Martin may not at all have been
planned, but the eventuality of a controversial case coming along to divert attention
was sure nice for them wasn't it?

And where in the world is Carmen Snowden?? NSA anyone? Fast and Spurious?
For basic magnitude we've got Chicago during the last 4th weekend (Thanks smiling
lady) with 80 shooting incidents and a lot more dead people than all FLorida.
Two crickets, and one with laryngitis. Hmm.

Of all the hundreds of young teenage kids shot in Chicago over the years (I lived there 15 years) I have never heard Obama or Eric Holder address the gun violence in that city to the degree of this case has reached - This whole case is a racist farce from the beginning. Did Zimmerman do some things wrong - absolutely - did Trayvon Martin do some wrong - absolutely. To call Zimmerman a white Hispanic should of been your first clue this is a racist set up. The point is Zimmerman had every right to defend himself with a weapon if he was legally licensed and I would have done the same. On the news they portrayed Trayvon Martin as some kind of small innocent kid - which in court they proved otherwise - he had a temper and was a racist kid. This doesn't mean he should be killed and it for sure doesn't mean Zimmerman should have just taken a beating.

Was Ziimmerman suppose to ask for some ID from Trayvon Martin while Trayvon Martin was beating his face in? Here in Florida where I live now you are aware of the "Stand Your Ground" law without a doubt. I believe in that law as many others do here in Florida. If you have ever been a victim of a violent crime you would understand and would probably be chirping a different tune - believe me. I learned a long time ago and understand that liberal people like you want everything to be just peachy. Let say this - the criminals are not giving up their weapons no matter how hard Obama and Eric Holder make it hard for us legal firearm carrying people, they will just make criminals out of those who want to protect our families. Every country in history where the people gave up their firearms were destroyed in the end - many - many times.

I was Knoxville TN looking for a new home when 4 black men carjacked a young white couple out on a date in a Cadillac Escalade. What those 4 men did to those two kids never hit the main stream media. They raped both of them / tortured them / cut off her breast and cut off his genitals while they were still alive. They started them on fire while they were begging for their lives and still barely alive. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Their parents were not allowed to hear what those 4 black men did to those two white kids - they would of past out for sure - I know I would have. You want to talk about racist hate - there's a belly full waiting for you if you want to read the whole story. Oh - and where was Jesse useless Jackson and even more useless Al Sharpton??? when these kids needed them. There was no rioting or protests in Knoxville TN - because this story was all covered up so it wouldn't happen, why is this case so different?

My 52 year old father had the life beaten out of him by a 22 year old guy. The guy kept his knees on his shoulders and pounded the life out him until he was dead. Like I said if you are ever a victim of a violent crime you will be chirping a completely different tune if it happens to you liberal person.

So my point is - You want to defend Obama for his little speech? OK- but with all the White House scandals / global troubles / US economy problems / the national debt crisis / Benghazi / Fast and Furious / Corruption in the Home Land Security / corruption in the White House / The foreign wars we are involved in / Planning the next attack on the GOP / Planning his next vacation - why in Gods name is the Travon Martin case such a priority to Obama and Holder? Because they are bigger racist than most and their position gives them the unusual opportunity to do something for the black community to enhance the black community's belief that whitey is just plain screwing them at every angle. Obama and Holder are flaming racists against whites and want to disarm this country - and if you can't see that - you should just leave this country.

As Obama never misses an opportunity to take swipes at the Constitution, Rights, Freedoms.

Only difference is that he had it planned ahead of time.

Exactly right.

And also...

Called it!

Crime is on the rise, if you're paying attention. Including in my hometown, mentioned in this thread. I suspect its the reaction to you-know-who getting off scott free after killing Martin.

I don't care if he was guilty or not... that case has been blown WAAAAY out of whack.

Now, its being used as ammunition for gun control, like every overly-exploited shooting (no pun).

Crime rising = more crime to exploit

More crime to exploit = More ammunition against gun rights

More ammunition against gun rights = more restricting gun laws.

I guess that armed protest in DC got someone's panties in a bunch.

Come get em, Obama.

My proof would be the blood all over Zimmermans head shown on TV - none on Trayvon Martins.

You obviously do not care enough about this thread to bring any intelligent questions or answers.
