People fall into different groups based on their values:

If people would realize the "war on drugs" is a crock, and that the cia runs drug cartels and profits off of them, then puts lowly citizens in jail for their personal use - people will wake up.

If people realize what the gov't actually does with the money they take from our paychecks - and then says their going to give amnesty to a bunch of people that never came legally and give their money they have "funding" social security since they were 14 years old and their first jobs - people will wake up.

If society discovers the FDA and Big Pharma are feeding them poison in the hope that they will die early and charge them huge amounts of money to make sure that happens - people will wake up.

If people would look at the hypocrisy of the american gov't funding the "arab spring" and the huge amount of tax payer monies used in waste and killing innocent people - people will wake up.

This is just a start - pick your value driven scandal.

It's all about gathering as much information from as many sources as possible, filtering it, processing it, and then making your own decisions. And those decisions will guide you through life, hopefully.

Many people are content to remain blissfully and willfully ignorant of the backroom machinations that shape global commerce just as others couldn't care less about whatever idiotic celebrity gossip is on the front page of the tabloids. On one extreme you have someone comparing spray tan products on the latest smartphone app whilst driving, and on the other, you've got the guy who knows that the moon is a hologram and thinks that Satanic pedophiles choreographed the Superbowl halftime show. MSNBC's hyper-diluted rubbish versus some guy in his basement ranting about reptoids. Aim for the middle.

Awake or asleep, be good to yourself and those around you.

In my experience, most people are already "awake" (oh how I hate that term!) The majority of people have come to the conclusion that the government they live under is dishonest, insane and intolerable. In spite of this realisation they continue to feed the monster that terrorises them because they don't know what else to do. They have too much invested in this ride to risk losing it all. It's all very Orwellian.

As for alternative media; no, it will never overtake mainstream media. The populace are too far entrenched to give it up now. Pus, alternative media can be just as bad as mainstream media for peddling bull#.

Humanity is awake. We have just given up.

Indignite pride keeps many from turning the page afraid that "the dream" of "liberty and true freedom" never really existed. The truth hurts; the red pill numbs the pre-trauma disorder of reality.

Personally speaking I am awake. My daughter's father is in denial and thinks that I am losing my mind. We have a 4 year old and I have major health issues of my spine and need meds for pain tolerance (far from management)! My alternative is to seek a clear path is just not available; to me in today's society with pre-existing conditions and finding an HONEST practitioner. We barely make it through month to month. I am co-dependent on someone who can't see the forest from the trees.

Beyond waking up, I think Americans are so used to seeing "democracy" as a plateau that has such deeps roots they are impenetrable. They would not be able to grasp that they must become a "reality star" in their own life or a "survivor star," may be more appropriate. Paradoxically we have been "playing roles" all of our lives - just to make what we have work. Reminds me of Stockholm syndrome.

Have you looked at someone who could do "accu-pressure" not accupuncture - I don't know what your spinal problems are, but it's a miracle for someone I know.

Stockholm syndrome is a good synopsis for the people who just can't believe that our gov't is criminal. in so many ways.

No one is currently providing a clear coherent alternative to the current system. That's the biggest problem. We have seen both Occupy and the Tea Party fail to provide an alternative. All they do is perpetuate the same system, with a few tweaks.

Even those who claim to be awake, will just parrot Alex Jones, another who provides no viable alternative.

I would like to be awake as in the enlightened type, but spending moments worrying about NWO and illuminati and depopulation and ww3 is a waste of my precious time and energy.

Our constitutional republic which was based on the concept of limited government and responsible citizens has already been overthrown IMO. We have replaced it with a new philosophy. This new Philosophy is the political, social and economic cannibalism that preys on Americans and other countries throughout the world....

If a fellow American has more of (whatever) many feel entitled or left out.....they want a piece of..... down to the sweat of his brow....in their minds it is a form of some social justice to a portion of their neighbor's labor in the name of economic justice and fairness. Plenty of that implied right here at ATS...

If there is a racial component; and you are a non-minority, as opposed to being a “protected class”, the slightest objection on your part is deemed racism and you being labeled a selfish bigot or worse.

By the mere mentioning of the words “personal responsibility” and suggesting anyone get an education.... one where they learn English it is considered racist and insensitive.."give me a break"!! You want to work you need to be able to communicate.....Usually the better communication skills the better the job, especially in any kind of sales position or management.

China town works because most there speak Chinese and English...There is one in almost every major city..... they want your money, and for you to feel welcome, so they make an effort (in most cases) to speak the local dialect.... good for business.

Kinda obvious to those who believe in the totally old fashion personal responsibility thingy. Conformity can sink to it's lowest level like water unless there is a beacon everyone wants to strive for. That was one of the problems with communism IMO

Yes, I have tried injections. Hard cash for massage - the socialist I live with must not have physical therapy where he is from, nor value the characteristic of empathy. I am in my own form of Stockholm syndrome so it seems! Going for disability. Sad - I have been turned down once 2 years ago and didn't continue with hopes of success and various treatments. Now reapplying. I bet I will get approved and there will not be a bank to take the check! I wish I could demand to be paid in gold. I have paid more than my "fair" share!!!

Solution for our country unfortunately is to have the dollar collapse so that the FED becomes bankrupt or at least makes their final move to make off with the gold and dawns a NWO or we will all be introduced to Islam - personally.

What would change even if everyone did wake up? We are never privy to the real reasons for what happens in the world. When the U.S. went to war with Iraq, was it really because of Iraq holding weapons of mass destruction? Not likely. Was it to save the people from an evil dictator? Well, all we have to do is look at how no one tried to save Somalia to see that helping the people of other nations is not a main priority. Was the Iraq war really about oil? Personally, I doubt it.

So, what was the real reason for the Iraq war? I doubt we'll ever find out.

So, even if everyone did wake up, such multi-layered smoke screens would still leave us all in the dark.

not the people I've talked to, they seem to be clueless. I'd say about 5% of the people I've talked to have any clue. Then about 10% of that might know as much as I do. And I don't even know that much. But I have a general idea now of what's going on.

No, I think there are people who truly just don't want to believe so they do not. As well I think there are people are incapable of understanding and believing the truth.

Right now there are individuals who's entire world would shatter if they accepted what the world around them really is.

I also think a great many of people would have the frightened child reaction when faced with reality, and pull the wool back over their own eyes.

For a lot of people. why would you really want to wake up? Those of us that consider ourselves aware seem fine with it, but getting to where we are now isn't that pleasing. It's a very emotional ride to go from what you thought life was like, what you thought the world was like, to seeing things for what they really are.
