Pretty boring really.
Two reasons;

John Lilburne, a remarkably courageous man with an enormous strength of conviction.
en.wikipedia.org...

And the quote by Rousseau, author of many brilliant works including Of The Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right

"Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains".

Two brilliant and inspiring men.

Oh, and my avatar is a character from a comic called Battle that I loved reading in my childhood, Major Eazy.

Mine was meant to be a bit of a play on words, woodsman, but I am a mom not a man....
I have been asked if any of my boys are named Wood, but they are not. My username is a description of my lifestyle more than anything.

I use Leeda at most opportunities I get. I have quite a few forum memberships with the name Leeda.

Lee is my last name and Da are the first two initials of my first name. Sometimes I use Leedar if they need a 6 letter name.

I learned to use Leeda when I went to Polytech about 18 years ago, we/they didn't even have internet the first year. It was the login for the computers they used for every student. It was every students last name first and first 2 initials. A friend I made at polytech was called Bartlema.

Take me to your Leeda.

Mine is, as you might guess, simply descriptive. I do have green eyes, from my mother, and the "lady" is to ID me as female. Using a couple of other SNs, I was called a guy too many times.
Designating that in the SN seemed sensible.

Now, off to read the rest of the responses.

When I was born my parents named me Jeramie, and since I'm not creative enough to come up with an awesome username, I just went with my real first name.

I want to hear the truth, I speak it when I have it, and my family history has elements of Irish, Scots, Welsh and English, and no recordable data on where else my ancestors may have been from, aside from those places. Therefore, to the best of my knowledge, I am a Brit. Seemed a reasonable name, and might give the American members a laugh, and a misdirect to True Grit, which would be a serious misdirect because personally I can take or leave westerns.

I also chose the name Cody. First born son.
At the time I figured he would be the code I
would live by from there on.

I will resort to some talents for deviousness, that others
have commented on many times, when it comes to proving
or seeking a truth. My intials are RVS, so my first name
plus vs randyvs. Randyvious.

Stupid, shut up Randy !

Sled is a part of my name with the letters rearranged. I came up with sled just because it spelled a word.

7, 3, and 5 are my lucky numbers, and they do seem to pop up continuously in my life.

I chose my avatar because I love unicorns, and I am a fighter of evil.

OK, I'll bite.

Many years ago in the AD&D days, our group of 7 all had their various characters. Being the artistic type and one of only two in the group that had artistic talent, I used to spend my time doing renditions of my friends, basing them on how they looked as their characters.

My first character was a knight/priest, and everyone said I ripped off the Knights Templar look for my character. From then on I used to get hassled about being 'The Templar' and the name just kind of stuck, following me online to Everquest and WoW, and of course here.

Unfortunately out of the seven, all but two, myself and one other has passed on, so these days the name is more of a homage to my fallen friends than a username, it kind of keeps their memory alive.

7 and 4? Well, my lucky numbers, and the year this Templar came screaming naked into the world, complete with epic beard.

When I was around the age of 5 I opened a cage in a pet shop which contained a monkey...the monkey jumped on my head and bit me, I ran screaming around the corner to my mum who punched the monkey off, she always said some Monkey got into me and Iam half boy half monkey so I have always been called boymonkey

Wow

Sorry to hear about your friends

But that's a beautiful homage to them. I'm not surprised you stuck with the name.

Childhood nickname. My dad was a big M*A*S*H fan and my hearing has always been really strong. He started calling me Radar when I'd hear things before anyone else.

It could be any number of things:
1. I have a twisted sense of humor.
2. I like words or phrases with multiple meanings.
3.I was none too sober when I chose it.
4. It might be all of the above.
Pick one.

I love M*A*S*H

The lads where I used to work called me Hawkeye (at least to my face:lol

Because I used to pick up on their little irregularities and send the work back to the bench to be rectified

I'd hate to know what they called me behind my back
