Hello All, One year ago today my 13 year old next door neighbor went out into the woods behind there house and hanged himself. He died the following day. It shook me then, it's shaking me now. Last year I posted a thread about it, I thought I could come to terms with it all.....don't think I ever will. Over this past year I have watched the family slowly slide downward.

The effect of all this on his family was as devastating as anything could ever be.It's as if he killed them too. I will volunteer all day today at my local suicide prevention org, I will give a gift of $100 to them and hope it helps a family somewhere. I ask all ATSers to do something along the same lines, go give them a dollar or a quarter or just volunteer to help.

I want to dedicate this small thread to......Jode Daniel Scmid....A life ended , way to soon. PLEASE give to YOUR local Suicide Prevention Organization.....it really does help. Thanks in advance ATS community..OYM1262

Sometimes things happen to people that they aren't prepared to deal with.
We all think we are strong and can handle just about anything, and then life surprises us.

People go through the five stages of grief at different rates.
But it is a good thing to talk with a professional (psychologist) about your feelings.
Sometimes they can help put things in perspective and help with the grief process.

I"m glad that you are taking a negative that happened and are trying to do something good from it.

I have had thoughts about suicide before. Never acted on them though cause I don't want to hurt my family. What will the money do exactly?

Good that you are doing something for your own peace of mind.
Myself, I NEVER donate money to charities as I understand inevitably it will but some fat old guy a steak dinner or a new suit.
After all, charities are just a tax shelter for the rich.\
Instead, I would go find a homeless person and hand em a bag with a few sandwiches and a 20 dollar bill.
Death is a terrible thing when unexpected but it is unavoidable, this kid was just done with his journey.
In time you will look at this incident a little easier.

Ive been told it helps with the counselors and such. I give the money because it's just freaking money, were talking about the suicide of a 13 year old boy. If my insignificant amount of money does some good then I may have helped another 13 year old boy/girl chose a different option. A dollar man, it aint gonna make you or break you. It's a dollar.

What thirteen year old has lived enough life that they can come to the point of choosing not to live it anymore? I know this is painful as subjects go, and I would not want to twist the blade so to speak, but do you know anything about WHY the kid did for himself? I mean, childhood can be a massive bastard for a bunch of reasons, but that seems like a pretty extreme reaction.

I do not know man, I been trying to figure that one out for the last year. Been to the counselors, it still to this day makes zero sense. Helped out today at the suicide prevention org in my town. No way could I do that on a regular. Neighbors been gone away all day, really can't blame them. About 6 months ago I cut down " The Tree" for my neighbors, cut it up and took it away. It's out in my fire wood waiting for fall/winter. Hope none of you all ever have it to deal with it & those that have I feel for you.
