No more lurking - hello from Europe!

Hi there everybody. I have been lurking on ATS for years. I never bothered to sign up because sooner or later usually somebody would chime in with the ideas/observations that I would have liked to make anyway - so no need to add to the background noise and redundancy. Lately however I feel more and more often that I have to offer a take on some topics that for some reason or other has not yet come up.

In all likelihood that will mean that I will pipe up only occasionally but hopefully with something that truly adds a new perspective or facet to the topic.

As my name might give away I will probably occasionally chime in on spiritual topics but my interests are pretty wide spread. Currently I am morbidly fascinated with how the U.S. seemingly is headed toward a fascist future. A trend that became very apparent under Bush junior but as a European I am sad and appalled to see it continue under Obama.

I just commented on the 'Journalist Michael Hastings dies in L.A. car crash' thread but in the long run I expect to be all over the place (topic wise)...

I concur that the USA is heading somewhat rightwinged but it is not the only country, try the UK and our 'Oh So Very Posh MPs who don't relate to the people whatsoever!

I absolutely agree that we have these tendencies in Europe too - the trouble with the U.S. however: Imagine the third Reich with U.S. resources and 21st century technologies. If at some point the U.S. becomes OPENLY fascist any internal opposition will already have been dealt with and who is going to free the world of U.S.-Nazis at that point?

On a sidenote: how do I flag or can I do that only after 20 posts or even more hurdles?

I agree, the recent developments in the US are interesting, all the more because the US is the absolute world power today. But it seems to me that the question is : how are the american people going to react? According to my general feeling, which is just a feeling based on things that I read on internet and in the american mainstream and less mainstream press, Americans are not just going to bow their heads and submit...freedom is a strong tradition in the US, looking at its history, no?
