Wii 2nd control synced but not working

Hello. I am trying to get a 2nd controller with the lil nunchuck thing to work. The controller syncs up in the settings menu, light on nunchuck lights when plugged into controller, but the game still says its not. Batteries seem fine. Any ideas? I swapped controllers and same thing, player 2 seems to not be read by the game all the way, the cursor moves around but that's it. Thanks
