A line in "Man of Steel" tonight made me feel a surge of anger. *Spoilers for those who may not have seen the film yet*

At the end, Superman brings down a drone, and it crashes right in front of two military officers. He tells them "I know you want to know where I hang my cape, but you're not going to know." and something to the effect of "You'll have to trust me." and "I'm as American as it gets. I was raised in Kansas".

I felt tears coming into my eyes.

WHEN did we as Americans become the enemy in our own country?
WHY have our last two presidents and administrations do everything in their power to strip not only our rights and freedoms, but they do everything to try and strip our PRIDE. Pride as Americans, pride in our country. It has been destroyed.

We as Americans are going to go to battle with evil. This is true. The thing is, what are we going to do? They have overstepped their boundaries. They have stolen our rights to our privacy, our person, and our papers.

I think the time is now that we should stop focusing on democrat, gop, libertarian, because none of those are going to matter. It's just a diversion. It divides us.

We have a lot to do to restore our country and regain what we had. There is NO REASON for the govt to NOT TRUST US. What did Obama say the other day? "If you can't trust us, we are going to have problems".

NO, Mr. President, if YOU can't trust US Americans, then YOU will have the problem.

I haven't felt good to be an American since I was young, before 9/11. When my grandfather used to sit me down and talk to me about how he fought nazi's. How he saved people from tyranny. My grandfather died thinking our country a good place. We cannot allow our country to be run into the ground. No more secret wars. No more blood for oil. No more spying, no more lies. We need real leaders. I don't care what party line they come from. The time is now for us to stop the evil that is taking place in this country.

Well, thanks for the spoiler and I mean that. It's the second Superman movie I'll pass on and skip even on Cable TV later. People watched Superman movies to feel good about life and America. Superheros are ..well, kid's stuff. Yet, there was a little special something about the man of steel that just let you kinda forget about things outside the movie for awhile.

Why must EVERYTHING carry political messages now? Hollywood wonders why they raise ticket prices up up up and revenue still holds steady or drops? Oh, it's not a mystery to me at all. No conspiracy needed. Just replace entertainment with Polititainment and who needs it? We get enough on the Newstainment channels like Fox and CNN to feel crappy about for free. Why pay for more?

Great post.

Unfortunately, it is not just America. All over the globe citizens are being taught patriotic pride is offensive.

I personally feel it is an intentional plot to program us into accepting a one world borderless NWO.

I agree. But I cannot help but love the ending where he brings down that drone. I think that was a good message. We need to be trusted as Americans. There is no reason why we cannot be trusted. We need to stop being treated as criminals. I'm old enough to know what America was like when I was a child and growing up it was a different place. It has shifted greatly, and it needs to change.

I would have to see the scene to know where you're coming at with your OP. But I hate movies that deal with politics and current events. Why do writers blur the line with fiction and reality and also try to install their childish morals into their movies. I just want to be entertained. Not lectured to about whatever.

Sorry, but America became the enemy the moment America stopped caring about who the enemy really is.

You thought it was so many Nations around the World but failed to realize that your Govt. manufactured the demons.

You thought you were there for peace and failed to see the innocent victims of the lies you swallowed.

and then "They came for you...and there was no one left to hear"

Peace

Personally I believe every single drone spotted by every American should be shot out of the sky. EVERY single one.

In the words of Judge Napolitano, "The first American who shoots down a drone will be an American hero."

Drones are evil. Superman knows this. WAKE UP!

It is because Americans are compete IDIOTS in general who don't care about anything unless it affects their couch, beer, or television. I hate Americans, to be honest. They have no idea what has any real value in life. But I'll still fight to protect 'em.

Please darkbake, not all are not buried in text messaging or "Pretty Little Liars." Some of us are still here, we believe in America and what it used to mean. We see what's happening to our country and we know what has real value. We just don't know what to do to fix it.

Good luck with that. The average citizen won't have any weapon capable of hitting a drone. The one's that do are heavily regulated so there aren't a lot of people for them to investigate. Not to mention I still haven't seen this swarm of drones everyone keeps talking about. Sure I've seen a few patrolling AFB airspace when there's a HVT present that they need to guard and I've seen police use them during police actions. But I have still yet to see any just randomly flying around spying and I live in an area I'd expect to see a lot of them. We have Cuban refugees trying to get here, drug smugglers bringing their wares in, but no drones patrolling to monitor any of it. I've only seen a handful of them used outside of military airspace and those were watching a hideout from overhead to make sure no one snuck out the back while they were getting in position. The logistics required to spy on the population actively at the levels people are afraid of would require half the population to be working for them. The man power just isn't there. About all they can do is passively monitor us by using computer algorithms to tell them who a human needs to actively monitor.

Although this country was supposed to do away with the aristocracy and whatnot, I suspect it's always been a case of serfs and lords. I think people are just starting to realize that some things never change.

How much longer will we kowtow?

I know, sorry! You are right. A lot happened in the past few days and I'm not sure, I guess I got frustrated. But I think there is a lot of hope, actually. I read that a lot of Americans are paying attention now after the NSA leaks on both sides of the isle!

So... this Superman movie... Superman is fighting the govt.?

jude11 many of us see the innocent dieing, the peace (such as it was) crumbling and the fact that after 9/11 we were destroyed by the evil of the military industrial complex. 9/11 when America had the high ground, GW Bush sent us into a hell we have never recovered from.

Our government hasn't manufactured these demons, it is the demon. But many of us still stand, free and unaccepting of the evil we see. Do not abandon those people. If we do not stand together surely we will all fall.

I personally will not just blow off a movie because of a political message from the director's view differs from mine.

Probably will be an amazing movie!

Besides how is that a political message anyway?

In the comics there are plenty of times that the American military has turned on Superman. His father warned him of this!

Doesn't matter. if drones show up in the area they need to be taken down if within range. As long as they are within 1000 yards we can take them down fairly easily.

EViLKoNCEPTz not sure if you are American but we still have the ability do protect ourselves. Sheesh, I have a 120 year old weapon that can reach out to at least 1000 yards and it's ranged to 2000 yards. When we are actively attacked by hostile forces, whether by force or simply spying we have the right to protect ourselves.

Well, before I really turned into a newshound and just about made it a primary focus, I was able to watch through the political messaging and not be bothered. I still saw it there, but didn't give too much thought. Since really becoming sensitive to things like subtle manipulation through messaging and media? Well, I just can't watch through that when it's blatant these days. It's not an active dislike as much as it is an inability to enjoy it as entertainment.

How is it political? ugh.... I'm sad the question comes up... This thread wouldn't exist if others didn't clearly see it too.

The first Superman movies I enjoyed growing up, I couldn't really have told you the date or world affairs happening when they were filmed except for the obvious tells like car makes and models or the like. It was meant to be unconnected fantasy in almost all ways. Pure entertainment. Nothing to leave the theater and think 'Wow..that was really meaningful!'. Just something to relax, enjoy and not have to think about serious things for the couple hours. That was worth paying for.

Read a lot of comics, don't remember the US turning on Superman.

Political message is simple, at least part of it,,,
DESTROY ALL DRONES!!!
