who do you want to talk to?
from what star cluster?
what class of alien race?

This sounds to me like technologically advanced praying.

I figure that if there are aliens that can or have been in the vicinity of us I am sure they have already heard or will hear the constant nonsense streaming from our mouths, radios, T.V.s and internet. There's no need to broadcast the nonsense into outer space using different means.

This is a neat and "fun" idea. However, they need to close caption their video for the hearing impaired/deaf as well as offer translated speech.

Will the "aliens" be able to decipher our various languages? Will sending pictures be a better idea?

This is awesome!

In my opinion, there isn't much of a threat, regarding invasion and the repercussions that making ourselves "known" would have... If there is extraterrestrial life, and they have technology which is far beyond that of ours, and would have the capability of such a vast amount of space travel (to our planet), chances are they already know of our existence, folks.

We can barely communicate 1 light day away using our dish pointing directly at something.
The nearest star is 4.3 light years away.

The signal strength of our most powerful radio transmission is so far below the back ground noise of space you can compare it to a sneeze in a tornado.

No one has heard us!

A new website will allow anyone who wants to send a message into outerspace to do so. The website launches this monday and there seems to be some fear amongst the community that there's a chance we are inviting an invasion.

www.theverge.com...

The site is up but I haven't tried sending anything out so I don't know if it working yet.

EDITED:
I removed the site address as it is only collecting email addresses until launch and posting sites that collect data is not allowed here.

You’ll soon be able to send messages into outer space — but some experts are worried about who’s listening, and what they’ll do when they hear you

If the atomic blast of 1945 didn't get their attention, they may be too far away to hear anything.

By invasion do you mean like the Mariel boatlift or something more sinister? Could it be a friendly invasion such as when you get new neighbors they will often come over with a gift, like it could be free energy or something? Trouble there is always a price to pay. Nothing is really free. Such an interesting post. Starred and flagged!

Whatever gets sent to aliens, I think this song would be fitting bumper music.

It'll kind of leave them wondering what it's all about.

Why was that a stupid thing to say? Because you don't agree with it? I stand by my opinion.

When I worked for a major world Corp.. all the printers at all the facility had a one liner statement at the bottom of the every page printed, which no one could find out how to get rid of it ..it stated something close to this ..

"Stop all nuclear testing in the wafers south of the equator, there is no longer any need to test the data using physical bombs" ..

that was in 98'

You don't need any special group to do this, but here:

www.abovetopsecret.com...
Tuning in to Extraterrestrial Contact

Skyfloating made a couple good threads on this and an mp3 file you can use in meditation.

Or you can do it under the stars.

There is no special inbetween group or gate keepers here on earth to do it for you, ETs go to the grass roots levels and if one were to ask them who is the greatest, they would single out the homeless and poor and hold them up as the greatest.

So, gatekeepers is a dark side idea.

But forming meditation skywatching groups and trying to make your home and property a spiritual retreat for groups to skywatch, and hopefully with some equipment and full spectrum camcorders, is a good thing. I'm going to be seeing what is possible soon, my telescope arrived, and am waiting for my full spectrum camcorder, and when we move in a couple months would love to get meditation group going.

I don't mean to sound negative but what are the chances another planet with life and a civilization are close enough and at the same technological stage as us to receive those messages at all.

Those are silly odds, its a nice idea, but unless someone happens to be going for a Sunday drive through our region of space without using any form of FTL travel, the chances of them picking us up at all are slim at best.

As for invading, I don't get why people are so worried. They can choose any planet out there, why would they choose one with life on already? I'd like to think that if they have the technology to get here they'd be more interested in treating Earth like a nature reserve than destroying all of us.

Hunting reserve.

first if all, i am absolutely positive that alien life exists. the universe is so large, how can it not? as to the odds, i think its fairly good.
