The United States may be finished dropping bombs on Iraq, but Iraqi bodies will be dealing with the consequences for generations to come in the form of birth defects, mysterious illnesses and skyrocketing cancer rates.
Al Jazeera’s Dahr Jamail reports that contamination from U.S. weapons, particularly Depleted Uranium (DU) munitions, has led to an Iraqi health crisis of epic proportions. “[C]hildren being born with two heads, children born with only one eye, multiple tumours, disfiguring facial and body deformities, and complex nervous system problems,” are just some of the congenital birth defects being linked to military-related pollution.
In certain Iraqi cities, the health consequences are significantly worse than those seen in the aftermath of the atomic bombing of Japan at the end of WWII.

cavnews.wordpress.com...

Some of the military-related pollution they are referring to here is Depleted Uranium.. Evidently in my eyes this is a war crime. It is effecting everyday people and will continue to do so for generations to come. Those that ordered its use and those who used it should be charged with international war crimes..

Some will argue that the use of DU is not a war crime. Look at the pictures below and tell me it is not. There is a lot of evidence to suggest the use of DU causes birth defects...

According to a study published in the Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, a professional journal based in the southwestern German city of Heidelberg, there was a sevenfold increase in the number of birth defects in Basra between 1994 and 2003.

We send our troops to war under false premise and kill over a million civilians. Leaving the country with a legacy of birth defects and no one is held to account. Let us not forget the Nuremberg trials after WW2. I hope those repsonsble for these actions are one day held to account.

Absolutely gut wrenching. I feel for the Iraqi civilians that are dealing with the horrific consequences of the conquests of the military industrial complex.

I truly hope that there is a special place in hell for those responsible for waging an illegal war on innocent people in the name of profit.

This is nothing short of genocide. The makers and the users of these types of weapons know full well what the long term consequences will be. This is PREMEDITATED and EVIL.

Every one of us is allowing our military complex to commit these atrocities. Our tax dollars, our soldiers, our apathy allows this to happen. We need to stop cooperating with this evil.

It seems it is difficult to stop.. I remember seeing some of the biggest protests London has every seen. The antiwar sentiment was strong. This did not stop the war. It feels like this is not a democracy but a dictatorship. They found no weapons of mass destruction. That is like oops we went to war by accident and no one is held accountable for this.. It sucks..

The use of depleted uranium munitions is unconscionable. It has been known for quite a while now how dangerous it is to disperse the dust from DU detonations into the air.

Using DU munitions is orders of magnitude more contemptible than forcing women to wear the veil or denying them the vote.

Well what goes around will come around im sure....
The amount of deformed children born to those who served in iraq may also climb above normal levels...
Depleted Uranium doesnt care who it contaminates.....and it was all over the place....the air, the dust, the water....

Soldiers need to see these pictures in order to fully understand what their actions are causing.

They have children and those that don't may want to some day. If this were to happen to their children would they then consider it a crime? I hope that many will see it that way.

The only way to stop this is for more and more soldiers to be confronted with what their actions can produce and for enough of them to refuse to push those buttons along with more and more wannabe soldiers to stop enlisting.

Peace

Sorry it doesn't work that way until you actually stop war first. If the people who can do it stop volunteering and soldiers are ostricized. Talented warriors will seek another life. They will have a draft then and less talented people will be forced into service to die because they don't fight until they are placed directly into the enemies path. Like Viet Nam.
We don't devise the policies that place us out there essentially YOU do with your vote.
Water will be wet regardless of how you feel.
Stop wars, but good luck there are people who want revenge on you for these very events. But we have good warriors to stop them, for now.

I think a good ole fashioned tax revolt would cure some of the worlds ills. Given that all of the income tax goes for paying of war debt, I'd say it would be justified. Don't give them your money if you don't like how it is being spent.

Shameful, absolutely shameful.

My heart goes out to these innocent babies. Who was it that allowed ammunition to be constructed containing depleted Uranium?

These criminals should be brought to task and face war crime charges, along with Bush, Cheney & Blair. I know it's fanciful thinking, but come on, how can we not be angry by this?

Here in the the UK the vote would have count for nothing. Both main parties supported the war....

Soldiers are commanded to obey orders. Pictures like these will only create more post-traumatic stress disorder of war. This will not help the soldiers any....it is the military government that needs to see these pictures.

Under international law soldiers do not have to obey orders if these orders are to commit war crimes.. In participating in such actions they have become criminals too.. The reason they have not been prosecuted is that the US holds the big stick at the moment and has said that their soldiers cannot be tried in international courts.. The Germans though the same.. but the excuse that they where following orders holds no mustard...

Makes me angry. America never gets taken to task for the crimes we commit. 116,000 civilian deaths and not a damn thing accomplished. Patriotism is brainwashing.

The damage this war made is even much then this, how come we don't even here about iraq in the news anymore?
The war is over so it seems Iraq doesn't exist anymore? Invade a country, drop chemical bombs, destroy so many homes, kill 130 000 INNOCENT CIVILIANS with I-dont-give-a-f*-just-drop-it bombs, and then after 6 years of killing and destroying they come and tell us that it was all for nothing and that they didn't found any nuke weapons?
And instead of cleaning up the # they made, they'r looking for a new war with Iran not even bothered to use a different excuse. This proves how the world is sleeping...

Hey, everybody knows that DU is completely safe because the Pentagon and various government agencies' reports say so. Anyone saying otherwise is obviously a commie-pinko-hippie-Islamo-fascist -- and likely a servant of the Devil as well.

All the scientific research and observations over the past century on the toxicity of heavy metals and the radiologic effects of radionuclides are clearly just a vast left-wing conspiracy of hippy scientist to undermine the military-industrial complex.

"Babies with two heads and internal organs on the outside? No biggie as long as it doesn't happen to my precious snowflake offspring, and I and my family continue to have access to cheap petroleum. Did you see what Kim Kardashian was wearing the other day?" That's essentially the attitude of most Americans.

The pictures of the human abominations, courtesy of US tax dollars, should be put on t-shirts and worn to the exclusion of all other shirts until these crimes by the US are stopped and the perpetrators tried for war crimes and hung.

You can't hide the truth for fear of hurting soldiers feelings, otherwise people will just keep blindly enlisting and following orders without realizing the full extent of the consequences.

The politicians can cry war all they want, but if the soldiers refuse to go then the war never happens.

I don't ever count on politicians becoming humane overnight, in an ideal world they would be but there is more good in the average soldier than any politician so we have a better chance of just convincing people not to enlist or not to violate human rights conventions if already enlisted.

Soldiers have the training and bravery to take on the real enemy, TPTB! That's where the fight should be.

If there were one confirmed birth defect due to radiation in Iraq it would be worse than Hiroshima. Because at Hiroshima there were none.

No statistically significant increase in major birth defects or other untoward pregnancy outcomes was seen among children of survivors. Monitoring of nearly all pregnancies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki began in 1948 and continued for six years. During that period, 76,626 newborn infants were examined by ABCC physicians.

www.rerf.jp...

Birth defects happen with or without radiation. Horrifying pictures of them does not demonstrate that they were caused by radiation. Statistical evidence showing a higher rate of birth defects might.
