I have Xfudgeity and have noticed all my internet ads are based on what I watch via TV or on demand.

I won't lie and I hope ATS does not ban me for this but I use Peerblock/I-Block and Ghostery apps to block ad tracking.. I watch HBO,Showtime and Starz series along with the cooking channel and bbq pit masters.

EVERY AD I SEE is now based on what I have watched via Television. It even shows up in youtube. Days before I would be watching ancient aliens on the history channel, days later and I am on youtube complaining how Creed is christian rock yet inbetween all the creed music vids, there is a "UFO SEEN IN BLAH BLAH BLAH".

Anyone else notice this?

I assume you have the same internet provider as your cable company?
I don't have this problem as I don't have a t.v. but it would make since.

I only notice this with the internet and places I visit, not TV related, but because I don't like annoying adds I block the add and have my adobe flash disable as Adobe flash have a nasty habit of using computer space for their storage of visited sites.

That is all it takes.

My ads are based on a bunch of buzzwords I've come across through pageclicks, web history, and what I type. So I might type "construction" here, and then up to a day and a half later I get ads targeting "construction". Because I don't do cable TV. 24 hours of programming, I don't like being programmed. Admittedly, maybe a tenth of that comes to synchronicity, or happenstance, but the rest, I feel the manipulation. Don't like it either; feels like being followed by a swarm of bugs everywhere I walk in a park.

No, but just the other day I was looking at Alabama vacation brochures in front of my computer (I've never looked them up online) and soon after, I saw ads for Alabama vacationing. I usually observe ads and I had never seen such ads before. I think it's just a coincidence, but it creeped me out a little. LOL Just thought I'd share.

For me it used to be the same, although I do not own TV anymore (do not see a point, I watch everything in computer).

The digital signal for TV comes through the same router which provides internet. Even my home phone is connected to it, so that when somebody called it showed up on the TV screen. The system is quite connected with each other, so it is true.

Well, wait for the emotion sensors on TV
They exist already,. Personalised TV commercials based on your mood (and internet history and TV history)

Everyone is tracking you (us)! With cable, with internet, club/savings cards. They think of new ways to track people every day. They track your cell phone position to see where you go! I almost (almost) wish for an EMP to wipe out everything electronic out. It would put us back on an almost (almost) even playing field!

Sorry, been holding that back for a while!

Most of the ads I see are related to either things I have done, bought, or searched for via the internet. Obviously there is some type of tracking involving search engines, online gaming, etc... and as things get more interconnected (as they are bought by google or microsoft, etc...) expect to see even more “targeted” advertising that is tailored to your specific tastes. I am sure that some of it is just an algorithm that matches your tastes to products that others like you enjoy.

Buddy, you and me too. I've expressed several times on these forums my fervent wish for a worldwide EMT event.

And it's not because I think it would be like Dark Angel, and that I would get to meet a 19-year-old Jessica Alba ... necessarily ... although...

Never mind that. But then one day I realized that governments--and more to the point "our" government--have all their own electronic toys protected by industrial-grade Faraday cages and Deep Underground Military Bases. They'd still be large and in-charge. Goddammit....

Nope. I don't watch TV and my browser has an ad blocker.

Track me if you can, corporate drones...

I have CC cleaner. I use it knowing that after 30mins of internet usage I can clear 300+MB of space when I use CCleaner.

Lets all test this. If your Internet provider is the same as your cable provider go watch a program! Then keep an eye out for anything in relation to what you watched on TV. Do not even type it... Come back and let us know if you notice anything.

I have also noticed ads based on what I buy... Funny thing huh?

I was all set to go try this, until I realized that I only have broadcast TV--through a digital-to-analog box. But I have noticed that I get a lot of emails for Viagra. I'm not sure what that means--but for whatever it's worth....

Just a update.

I spent half a day watching nothing but cooking shows and the other half watching the science channel. I nor anyone else has been on the computer today within this house. (wired internet)

I just got my tigerdirect shipment and built my computer within the last half hour. I am on a new hard drive and mac id, IP is the same.

The ads I see are of cooking and odd ball science ads and this is (aside from windows updates) the first site I have come to since booting up my newly built gaming pc.

I wonder if Comcast is in the game of selling my mined data to other company's or maybe Comcast does the ad placement in hopes of a commission if I buy anything from a clicked ad....

Tracking cookies are not an issue here. I already said I use Peerblock/I-Block/Ghostery/CCleaner. I even use cmd and do /del index.dat /s NOT TO MENTION I am on a new Hard Drive in which I have performed no searches of any kind.

I did notice this tho. After my last post a few seconds ago I have already seen tiger direct ads all because I typed it here.
