Caffeine Withdrawal Is Now A Mental Disorder

www.philly.com

Ask anyone coming down from the high of one too many cups of coffee, and they'll tell you that the headaches from caffeine withdrawal can drive you crazy. So much so, that the latest version of psychiatry’s bible, DSM-5, is naming caffeine withdrawal as an actual mental disorder

This "disorder" as it’s described in the new DSM-5
(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders )
is placed under section ‘Caffeine-Related Disorders,’
which has a new entry: 'caffeine withdrawal'.

Most everyone knows the symptoms; fatigue,
headache and difficulty focusing.

Sure, those are valid symptoms of caffeine withdrawal if
you regularly over consume coffee, tea and drinks with
caffeine added... however is this really enough to classify
it a mental disorder?

So, now lets see what are the angles on this,
well for starters....you could be prevented from
owning a gun due to caffiene intoxication?

drinking too much caffeine can lead to “caffeine intoxication,” and withdrawal from the drug can lead to a caffeine-related “mental disorder

godfatherpolitics.com...

And, all they need to do is find you with those empty
coffee cups, and looking a bit tired.

Time to file for disability!

Between caffeine withdrawal and chronic masturbation I should be a lock for full benefits.

Take that working suckers!

It's definitely a mental issue. Anyone who quits drinking real coffee or puts themselves into a situation where coffee is not readily available....is nuts

Yes, I see it is going to be another one of those things that
overload the system, for sure. In every way!

I just really dont understand how they see it being a disorder, as when
the caffeine is processed out of your system, things correct in a few hours.

Sure you may have a headace for days if your totally addicted, but a mental disorder?

Seriously this is stupid.
They get really carried away with labeling everything.
Even normal things get labeled as "disorders".
Just ridiculous.
Did they do that so they could market a prescription drug to go with the diagnosis?
We'll be seeing that next.

Yes, so they can put you on drugs, put you on disability payments, and make you dependent on the government. Aren't we already almost halfway there here in the good old USA now?

This is just stupid.

Oh wait I got it.
Phizer will now formulate there own version of NO DOZ

Even better Excedrin can kick that headache.

I can cut back on caffeine without any problems.
It's all about staying hydrated. Coffee dehydrates.

It seems to me a " Mental Disorder" should be something that can't be helped .. it's something wrong with the way the brain is wired. Caffeine withdrawals are clearly a cause and effect problem.

In fact I just looked up the definition of Mental Disorder from different sources and none of them fall under a cause and effect condition.

What next disagreeing with the government becomes a mental disorder?

So does that mean that the next time the hubby does something completely stupid and I finally "snap" that I will have a legal medical defense?

".......sorry Your Honor but I ran out of coffee and I just couldn't take it anymore!"

Geez, whenever I go thru caffeine withdrawal, I just take a Tylenol and a nap. Clears it right up.

But that won't suffice anymore, it seems. Put me on more zombie meds, diagnose me with a mental disorder....perhaps give someone power of attorney over my decision making process?

That's a stretch with caffeine withdrawal.....but perhaps not with other disorders....

I can hear the doctor say
Now go to your addict therapy session but unlike AA they will pass
around sugarfree gum instead of have that big pot'o coffee.

Does it seem strange that this correlates with the new "statistic" they just tossed out
there that 20% of the children now have a mental disorder?

I dont know, maybe these experts are adding in kids that are addicted
to caffeine?

Thinking about all of the kids who are drinking all of the redbull, rockstars and etc. that

Perhaps we need a GMO coffee that includes genes from willow bark so you don't get the headache.

I drink coffee almost every morning. Yes I like my coffee.

If I don't have it, I don't go mental.
