Man Kills Self at Ground Zero
Saturday, November 06, 2004

NEW YORK A 25-year-old university worker from Georgia shot and killed himself at ground zero (search) Saturday morning, authorities said.

The man, Andrew Veal (search), of Athens, Ga., was found atop the structure housing the 1 and 9 subway lines after a hotel worker spotted what he believed was somebody sleeping inside the site around 8 a.m., said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. A shotgun was found near the body, Coleman said. No suicide note was found, he said.

Veal apparently was distraught over President Bush's (search) re-election, Newsday reported Saturday on its Web site edition, citing an unnamed police source. The newspaper also said the man was a registered Democrat who opposed the war in Iraq.

Coleman said he could not confirm Newsday's account.

Police were investigating how Veal entered the former World Trade Center (search) site, which is protected by high fences and owned by the Port Authority.

Veal worked in a computer lab at the University of Georgia and was planning to marry, friends said Saturday.

Guys and gals,
I know we all have our differences, and our opinions about President Bush. A lot of you liberals out there hate my president with the firey passion of a thousand burning white hot suns, and the fact that the majority of America still thinks he is a good man,and a great president really angers you to no end.
However, you guys need to ask yourselves, "Is it really that bad?" Honestly, is it bad enough to take a gun and kill yourself over like the man in the story above?
If your answer is yes, you need some serious help immediately. Talk to a friend or family member about how you are feeling.
I think we should all stop and say a prayer for this poor man who thought that President Bush being president was so wrong, that it was worth killing himself over.

Id rather die by my hands than something caused by his hands.

If anything, I would hope, Bush being reelected was just the breaking point and there were underlying problems and motivations before.
It just doesn't make sense that someone would kill themselves purely because of the reelection of Bush. That's just what I think, though.

Dont worry about me.

I wouldnt give my life up for no monkey harbinger of the New World Order.

Obviously, this is an extreme example of mental illness fueled by Bush's re-election.

That's pathetic. You can't expect liberty to be handed to you on a silver platter. It's depressing that a liberal would kill themselves when faced with a hard decision. The motto is Fight for Your Right, not Ask for YOur Right, and if you dont get it, you might as well kill yourself because youre screwed, buddy.

It's mostly the wealthy elite and the nationalists who support Bush... the proletariat tends to be very anti-Bush because of attempts to eliminate over-time pay to basically favor the corporations and step on the worker.

The nationalists especially believe in whaever Bush does.. no matter how many must die in Iraq.. they believe it's all in "defense of America" These same nationalists are the people who watch there neigboor go off to die in a war but they themselves just stand and watch.

Also they talk about how "Freedom ain't free" and how we have to invade all these countless nations in order to retain freedom... it's really a blind and ignorant thought process. I'm not sure which freedoms are increasing because we've invaded Iraq.

Nationalist agendas are deadly.

I would just quote you, but the moderators penalize you for quoting too much.

Any way, I get the majority of Americans from the fact that the president won 52% of the popular vote in America after the final count.

Now, you can say that maybe there were more Kerry supporters out there, they just didn't get off their lazy butts to get to the polls. Maybe, but you can't prove that, and if they actually CARED who their president was going to be then they should have voted.

Now, If they did care, and they just didn't vote, then they should shut their mouths because they have noone to blame but them selves.

"Those who don't vote, vote themselves into a dictatorship." - Fred Bauer

However, if you want to research who one the popular vote, you can do it at any news site on the net. Bush had 52% of the popular vote, and Kerry (who didn't do too bad himself) got 48%. The 52%, I would say makes the majority.

That just means that he got the majority of the votes, that doesnt mean that the majority of americans think that he is a good man, and a great president. Maybe you should go research how many votes just "turned up" in favor of Lord Bush. Eh?

And you only get warned for quoting ALOT, quoting what I said is no where near that much.

Um, I only quoted two people the whole time I've been a member, and I had 20 points deducted for quoting too much. Perhaps that is just the reason they gave me. Maybe I had them deducted because I'm a Bush supporter.

I know, It's Bush's fault!!!! Hell, all you liberals blame him for everything else, I might as well blame him for having 20 points taken away!

Killing yourself won't solve anything.

I hate hearing about the infinite potential of the youth of the nation wasted in tragedies like this.

I will show you how this happens everyday.

Republican (majority) policies are intended to suppress middle class advancement, and maintain it in the way that it has worked for so often, so that the following scenario is played out.

A child in a family of 5 to 7 realizes that there is no money for him to attend college. His parents have tried hard, but alas, they can't afford it. So, out of options, he goes and visits one his local recruiters. So, he is shipped of to the Right-wing secondary education suite...I mean, Boot Camp.

And another person's liberties are squashed by military service, until he's made into a conveniently useable sheeple.

Loki,

did this kid whose parents couldn't afford college ever think about taking out student loans, which become more numerous when right wing nut jobs are in office?

Thats what I did for my college education, along with working 2 jobs and taking 22-24 credit hours.

Your argument supports your belief, but maybe the kid isn't quite so Anti-America and actually wants to serve his country.

For starters....to keep yelling "the majority has spoken" is absurd....making it sound like there was a win by like 75% or something, there wasn't....it was 51% "1%" people.....secondly....no one kills themselves over an election, music, a movie, or a video game unless they have deep emotional stability problems and mental issues to begin with!
