Saw this the other day and surprisingly, not that bad. Not as good as Knight and Day, but still decent. From the previews, I knew what would be my favorite scene (him facing 5 thugs), but still some other decent action scenes too. Certainly worth picking up as a cheap rental.

I have a question for you then, as someone who has seen it? How does it live up to the books? I've been a big Reacher fan through unabridged audio on the truck and haven't missed much. At the same time...I groaned to hear who they cast to play the lead role on this one. Did it work out well and did Cruise manage to capture the essence of the book's character? If they made this work, it'll be on the top of my short list to make a point of seeing.

Well I've never read the books, but I did enjoy the movie. Hubby did too. And neither one of us are big on Tom Cruise. I did like Robert Duvall's character a lot.

Jack Reacher-round? I skipped it.

I still can't stand Cruise...I often hope his movies will Bomb but they never do???
I liked Born on the 4th of July and that was the last I liked him in, the rest were rolls about pompous arses which I doubt was a stretch.

I find him to be an unapologetic egotist and would rather promote better artists with my money. I think the more you apply this hopefully someday Hollywood would get the point and make better quality movies with better quality actors....but I doubt it. LOL

Now the books...I would like to know more about as I am always up for good fiction!

You know, I feel the same way about him, and do think plenty of other actors could have played this part. But in truth, I was actually able to enjoy the story, without even really......."focus?" (for lack of a better term) on the fact that he was playing the part, if you understand what I'm trying to say. The story itself is what entertained me.

I agree 100% if it is a good story an actor will fade into the story, same can be said with a mediocre story and a true Thespian (sorry...actor lol) making the movie shine. That is exactly why I vote with my money a concept today that seems foreign in the entertainment glut. I get there are followers of the books (which until know I was ignorant of) but still I support artists and these days how do support or not support the juggernauts like Cruise? The movie undoubtedly drew people just because of him (which is fine if you like him). I don't

Tell you what to clean my conscious you rent it and I will watch it or I will wait till it is on Netflix LOL

Well, I can totally support your reasoning. I was just enthralled by the "how things were figured out" part of the case they were trying to solve. So you should definitely check it out, when it's on netflix. If you lived near me, I would let you borrow it!!

it doesn't, I was very very disappointed

Tom Cruse as Jack Reacher was just stupid.

they make some plot changes that i didn't like

book was far better, even if you ignore the inconsistencies between the book and the movie its still rubbish.

Movies never do, which is why I usually see them first, THEN read the books. If I can help it. From what I gather though, in the books, Reacher is very tall, and right there, Cruise falls short, hehe....but he can act the nice guy/bad arse when he wants to. I'm no fan of his personal life, but I separate that from actors' performances.

As for renting vs. internet. Internet (assuming your meaning here) is illegal, rental is $1 and where I was going anyhow. Which is more inconvenient? Waiting for the download and finding it (and praying it doesn't have malware that can bypass protections), or just picking up a RedBox while at the grocery store...
It's a buck...seriously.
