The so-called austerity cuts have already been implemented in many countries across Europe starting in 2010 and protests have been occurring in various countries across the EU since 2010. Quite a few have been ongoing.

Ohhh bad judgement on the cops part.

I predict that a lot of police homes in that country are going to go up in flames and the firefighters won't get near the home for fear of their own safety and just let them burn.

Firefighting is a true skill and I don't think a lot of cops have it.

Firefighters show true courage, they will burn to death looking for someone still in a building, Cops will kill because they 'might' be in danger. Do you really think Kelly Thomas or David Silva deserved to be beaten to death by cops who killed them for sport.

Nah..Firefighters don't matter. If a building burns down, then there's opportunity to rebuild. Jobs are created. Firefighters prevent new jobs and new work by preventing the destruction that would normally provide new opportunities. Cut firefighter services. They do less good for the economy that you think.

Never thought of it that way... Maybe if enough people die in these fires, I'll be able to find a job too! I just might have to take my gas can down to the gas station for a fill up.

I will tell you all one thing, that is if this happened in our neck of the woods we would certainly be concerned to say the least.

Our Fire boys and our cops are like one of the same.
Up to this point we trust them both with our lives and their judgment in any calls is ok with us.

If this happened here it would cause a major brain fart for both me and the wife........I really don't think we would handle the above situation so well so our sympathies to the public regarding the above situation.

It is sad that the common people must fight each other. Worker against worker is never good. They should unite and protect both their jobs. Sadly, the police are more useful to the political class than the firefighters so the firemen get the axe and the police come with the stick.

If I was the police in Spain, I'd say the firefighters are already on the scene, it is a controlled burn, no further action required.

How much longer will people be protesting/debating these issues, instead of replacing their governmental/social/economic structures? Part of the fault lies with the tolerant civil population.

The pictures just represent mankind. It's always been this way, and it always will. People fighting other people... A few people at the top pulling strings.

I completely agree. I am in SW France and it's clearly evident.

Government employees who ONLY do as little as is needed to get by. Paper pushing and passing the buck helps other employees and the circle continues.

Bureaucracy gone mad and in my opinion, the bubble is well overdue to burst and needs to.

Try starting a small business in France and you soon find out about the great divide between the public and private sector.

VIVE LA REVOLUTION! and I DON'T mean civil servants pushing for shorter hours, bigger pensions or more holidays, I mean BRING BACK THE GUILLOTINE and start at the top.

Thankfully, the majority of firefighters in France are volanteers and do a fantastic job. Well kitted out and incredibly professional. Don't call an ambulance, call the "Pompiers", they always have a paramedic at hand. I'm sure it's different in many other European countries where the emergency services are full time employed.
