Kind of lol. There's only three in the world so catching them outside of Offutt is pretty cool.

How many hours in a week a Boom operator works? Whether it is always constantly or maybe it's dependent from the situation, and if air refuelling can be made in the night?

When I was flying it was usually three times a week at home and around 5 a week while deployed. But when not flying we all had jobs on the ground. I ended my six years as the OPs group instructor boom. I held the jobs of ground scheduler, flight supervisor, OST instructor boom and 905 ARS Evaluator.

As for night refueling, absolutely. We refueled 24/7 365. We had separate qualifications for day/night fighter, day/night heavy, day/night stealth, day/night SOAR, and day/night special. Had to stay current on all of them too.

Absolutely epic thread, I read the previous threads but sadly far too late to see the pictures, and here they are.

As a child I summered many times with my cousins on a base in England called RAF Marham and it was pretty awesome, the late 70's early 80's I guess thinking back. All night every night we would look over the fields at the back that gave onto the runways...quite some distance from the house it must be said, but my uncle could tell me the name of every craft that was taking off and of course, as a child, I was mightily impressed

The one thing that really stuck in my mind was the name they used for the f-4,"the flying coffin" is what he would call it.
Thanks for this thread sir

My pleasure.

If anyone has questions regarding the boom operator job or tankers in general, post them here and I'll do my best to answer them. If I can't i'm sure zaph knows the answers!

While you guys drool over pictures of little metal crafts flying through space doing nothing for our species or civilization..

Im thinking.. "What a waste and robbery of tax payer's money"

Yea.

All that money taken from hard working tax payers so a few lazy pilots can enjoy their "toys" and flying around wasting tons of $.

Hope the pics are worth it, slaves

Ave if we just got rid of the military the world would magically become a safe place, we'd all suddenly get along and become enlightened beings, right?
