I searched and didn't find a thread about this, I think it deserves one.

Sad news, Ray Manzarek the exceptional keyboardist and founding member of The Doors has died at 74, after battling cancer for many years.
Manzarek dead

One of the greatest rock and roll keyboardists, that defined The Doors' sound on so many of their great songs.

hope he's jamming with Jim on the other side.

Well the silver lining is that we'll never have to hear about a new doors tour with Ziggy Pop fronting them, ever, ever again.

such a sad day, I hope he slipped out peacefully. I'm a guitar player, but you simply can't deny that the doors sound was 99% Ray.

Ray infuenced me almost as much with just his left hand than Jack
Casady did sometimes with his whole deal. Both were (Jack still is)
great assets and major contributors to progressive rock. Listened to
him as much as Emerson with Nice, later Keith's trio with Greg.
I'm so glad that Jim passing that early didn't stop Manzarek too: so
much good stuff later on. Few keyboardists could 'unhook' and play
a whole different bass line like him. This is the end.......RIP Ray
