A truly inspirational video with David Suzuki talking about how endless growth is suicide on a finite planet, and that we have to raise awareness about this and realize that what made humanity great is imagination, and with that we should envision a future in which we are not robbing our childrens future to satisfy our insane and unsustainable need for more.

We have to protect our biosphere which is fixed, and cannot grow, therefor we need to adapt to nature and not fight against it.Constant consumption takes up our lives, and we worship worthless things through materialism a by product of the fallible system that is capitalism, instead of valuing nature and human relationships more.

Let's grow up and realize this now, when we can actually do something about it with our advanced technology, so we can work together to transition to a better world where today's mistakes are turned into tomorrows problem solving, and boundaries between humans are surpassed.

I'd like to listen to him, but he is on the same level as Al Gore.

Concerned with money. That is it.

We all know David Suzuki is a saint. Especially now that he's 76, and refers to himself in the third person, as "an elder." Recently, Suzuki told his fellow CBC employee George Stromboulopoulos, " I feel though, at my age, no one can accuse me of wanting more fame or power or money." That's what he says. But what does he do? Suzuki's visit to a small junior college in Montreal last October paints a different picture. To give a one-hour talk, Suzuki billed them $30,000 plus expenses. Add in his airline ticket, his $841 hotel bill, a photographer and other costs, and the total hit for his visit was $41,640. From a small, publicly funded school.

I have not watched the video, it's a bit long so I'll download it. As for any "change" required to save this planet, it's not going to happen until people get a change in attitude. I think that attitude change in today's world will take an external force/event to change those people's lives for them, whether they are ready or not.

And as for money, yeah, I wonder what kind of home and environment he lives in - does he practice what he preaches?

This does not discredit what he said in the video to be any less true.

Sure. But those who know how greedy he is, for money and fame, are less likely to listen to him.

So the message is not worth listening to then? Sounds like an important issue no matter what one thinks of him.

Can super mods give themselves stars?

If Jeffrey Dahmer tried to share a meat recipe I wouldn't listen either.

For those that can see beyond the aspect you have provided, I think his speech will be invaluable, and would most likely appreciate the information and positive enlightenment.

It's the message that matters.

I've seen David Suzuki personally attack Christians and promote Goddess-Mother-Nature-Is-Angry-Against-Humans nonsense. Sure, the topic he talks about may be true. But I feel some of it can risk fuelling draconian Population-control measures, which would fall straight into eugenics plans like those that are currently promoted by some top levels.

Respectfully... Hitler made many messages. I think the guy behind the message may be just as important to consider.

It is time for a change. But then again, some people (like Hitler did) can often seize the opportunity to lead such change , and then get famous, and then sparks something that is only in the best interest of the leader and not the people or the planet.

Ah, good old 'humans are maggots' depopulation NWO stooge and all round eugenicist David Suzuki, who sent his daughter to perform that heart rending speech at the eco-conference when she was about 12.

No thanks. You can keep him.

It is obvious that you need to be able to discern between David Suzuki's message and Hitler's, if you are unable to, then the forum is not for you.

And fearing out of paranoia perhaps the worst to come from his speech towards positive change is somewhat disconcerting.

I am saying that Hitler too promised to lead us to positive changes. History knows how many people followed him because he was so charismatic and his speeches seemed to make so much sense. And History knows what then happened afterwards. In fact we are still fighting worldwide eugenics movements because so much people fell in the trap.

I thought it was pretty clear if you watched his speech at least in this particular video he wasn't talking about eugenics, but economic sustainability.

How is he wrong? Our current level of growth is unsustainable. How does making money make this any less true?

There is a difference between discerning and agreeing, look it up if you didn't know.

We have enough water and desalination technology to fill all need for water, including the third world, which sorely needs it. Yet it seems some key sectors prevented such technology from being implemented. Why? Is it because of economical strategy? Economical key points? I don't know... All we know is that it's been decades we have the technology to solve mankind's problem but some sectors prevent these measures from being implemented. I give an example: We have the tech to build towers which could house ALL of mankind (including those on the streets and the third world), every single man, woman and child on the planet for the next hundred years, and at the same time reduce the area that mankind occupies on dry land to no more than 2%. We all saw that fact about the 800-meter ball. Overopulation was invented by Malthus in the 1700's.

Yet, people in the big media, those who are supposedly our leaders for a sustainable future, keep saying that it would be better to actually SPREAD mankind all over the place, which would mean cutting down even more forests and building even more roads. They call for a de-urbanization although the real solution is actually the exact opposite: Cover less space so that vacant space can be used for food production.

Indeed we do, or if not, we're certainly close. But, eventually, given unlimited growth, we're going to run out of stuff.

Now it's not going to happen anytime soon, we're hundreds, if not more, of years away from having to worry about it. But it's not too early to start taking it into consideration.

That doesn't answer either question.

And I'm aware of the difference, in whichever tense you suspect I'm not.
