Syrian army troops have gained the control of three villages in the strategic Qusayr area of Homs province on Monday, allowing them to cut supply lines to terrorist groups inside Qusayr town.
The military operation on the villages of Western Dumayna, Haidariyeh and Esh al-Warwar began this morning.

"The fighting lasted for three hours until we established control over these villages, which are considered strategic because they lie on the road between the cities of Homs and Qusayr and will allow us to block supplies to the militants in Qusayr ," the lieutenant colonel said on condition of anonymity.

Western Dumayna is some eight kilometres (five miles) north of the rebel-held town of Qusayr, which has been at the center of fierce battles between militant groups and the Syrian army.

Last week, activists said the town of Qusayr was surrounded by army troops on three sides and that some 25,000 residents were still inside.

On Monday, the daily Al-Watan newspaper, said the Syria army had halted operations in the area to allow civilians to leave safely.

The area has been a strategic boon to the militants, who used it as a base from which to block the main road from Damascus to the coast, impeding military movement and supply chains.

I honestly don't care what side gains control After seeing the video of the guy eating the heart of another human being, it just solidifies in my mind how radical and inhumane the rebels can be. The Syrian regime isn't any better.

All I know, is if the U.S. gets involved with this civil war, I will be genuinely pissed-off. I can't see us taking a side, when both sides are evil.

Look for sudden accusations of chemical weapons use by hassads forces or some other pretext like the bombings in Turkey, to bring down inervention by the outside any day now.......
The FSA will not be alowed to lose this battle.....
Syria is gonna be neutralised like it or not.

This has already occured this morning on the news. Obama and Turkish primeminister discussed seeing evidence of Assads forces using chemical weapons.

Well, why dont they review the UN evidence thats shows the rebels using chemicals weapons instead? or doesnt the UN inspectors proof worth anything?

They are going to get dragged into a hornets nest!

Can you Imagine Syria when Assad is overthrown and the evil rebels from four corner of the world took control of the country and US and the rest of the world are cheering them and glorifying them for such a nice job that they did!.....That is just so wrong I am sure it will not happen, and if it will,I certainly lose that little remaining faith in humanity still left in me.

Bout time Assad put his house in order, although i think it will be a while before that actually happens, but maybe it will bring an end to watching these terrorist sickos beheading citizens in the streets with scimitars.

Thats where you go wrong. Don't put your faith in humanity. The scenario you mentioned above happened in Lybia so it's not much if a stretch saying it couldn't happen in Syria. The Muslim Brotherhood is trying to recreate the fallen Ottoman Caliphate but i don't think the Saudi's want to see that kind of power in the hands of mentally unstable individuals.

I don't think any body is trying to recreate any former Empire,,,,Heck all countries have difficulties maintaining the fragile status quo as it is, let alone to expand!

You mean they are trying to re-establish, what was without doubt the most successful Empire of all time?, sounds good to me. I'd personaly be pretty impressed if they achieved that to be honest.

Anyway good for Assad though, the terrorist forced seemed to enjoy a pretty good element of surprise and time of initial chaos, but its good to see the forces of democracy are on the up and up again!. America will be proud of Assads sterling efforts at combating terror like this.

I think a Nobel Peace prize could be looming!

Sometimes I think ATS is a mental institute. Here we have a member supporting the rise of an Al Qaeda Empire. Go and live with the radical Islamists and let me know what you think then. I hope being beheaded or stoned "sounds good" to you.

I am well educated on the subject, thanks. It's patently obvious that if you support these people you know nothing about them. Either you are an Islamist yourself or you ought to try living with them, then let us know what you think.

Not all Muslims are jihadists,as not all Christians are evangelists,etc....Are you really suggesting that a bunch of delusional tribal unorganized misrepresenters of Islam are able to recreate the ottoman Empire?!...Are the rest of the world all numb or death to let this happen!......Real Islam is not about wars and taking over the world,,at least not physically....These fanatic Muslims only work for the money entirely out of their primitive mentality and violent personalities....Throughout the history people have interpreted Islam any way they wished to suit their agenda at the time, but there is never been a true functionally Islamic government established anywhere in the world..Not even in Iran or Saudi Arabia,,definitely not the Ottoman.

Assad winning .... not good.
Rebels (Al Qaeda) winning .... not good.

If only THE PEOPLE would win and could kick both Assad and the Al Qaeda rebels out.
But those poor folks are being butchered and hacked up by both Assad and the rebels.

Very sad situation. I see no good outcome for 'THE PEOPLE'.

Yes they are doing it, and Obama has been funding them via CIA. Most of the nations flipped in Arab Spring landed in Muslim Brotherhood hands. Sunni's already own most the M.E. as it is and the M.B. is comprised of Sunni's.

Think of this. Obama appointed 10 Czars, and placing himself over them. Now Czars are the russian word for Caesar (Emperor), and himself as head it would make him King of kings (Jesus Christ). Now wether or not you believe in any of that stuff is irrelevant, he clearly does and he think's he's clever enough to decieve everyone and he places himself above the law. Assassinating american citizens without due process (NDAA) is another proclaimation of his supremacy in that he has power over who lives and who dies, or in his own mind he has the keys of Shiloh (Death) and Sheol (the Grave/Hell).

Now you can claim "Illuminati" conspiracies or whatever floats your boat, but the man is clearly insane and cults have risen up around him that actually worship him, and ofcourse he boasts about looking towards government for his "salvation". This man is throwing out veiled terminology and people without an extensive background in biblical studies are missing what he is saying. With his veiled words, and actions he is proclaiming himself Messiah.

Without reading the thread, so this may have been talked about many times, but the rebels massive mistake was to use chemical weapons. Doesn't make a difference in what context or what amount. When they did that I'm guessing lots of support went out the window.
