You are aware that Obama is THE second coming of christ?
Yes my tongue is in my cheek, but sometimes the way he was portrayed, you might think so.

How come IRS didn't target OWS? They did far more damage physically and economically during their street ruckus. It's clear that Tea Party is the enemy of the radicals and OWS is a tool for them.

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 forbids military personnel from acting as law enforcement agents on U.S. soil.

Not exactly. It prevents anyone from using the Army or Air Force as a posse comitatus, unless authorized by Congress. That is not the same thing as not conducting law enforcement. It's to prevent US Marshals from assuming control of the military formations within their districts. This was fairly common during Reconstruction. US Marshals would summon a posse for some reason or another, and assume control of Federal soldiers within their districts because who wouldn't want soldiers in their posse? This ticked off the military, for obvious reasons. After much politicking the Posse Comitatus Act was passed, removing the authority of the US Marshal over the military. The President and Congress still have their authority over the military, including the Constitutional authority to "execute the Laws of the Union."

usacac.leavenworth.army.mil...

There is a law directing the SECDEF to keep the DOD military branches out of direct participation in civilian law enforcement, except where otherwise authorized by law or the Constitution (10 USC 375). This only applies to civilian law enforcement; the military is obviously free to engage in military law enforcement (MPs, CID, etc.). And it does not apply to the Coast Guard, which has a law enforcement mission. Nor does it abrogate the Executive's Constitutional authority to quell "domestic Violence" when the Legislature cannot be convened, which is what all this hullabaloo is about.

They were and possibly could be useful in the future, that is why they weren't targeted. But once their usefulness is over, they will be targets as well.

Well Done, Stirling. And the conspicuous assisted absences of just about

their wits on before they issue commands. Of course that was only hope...

It is no big deal.

When bad times come, your Police will be worse that your Military. In fact you would want the Military to patrol your streets.

Who cares... its over. We're already done and nobody cares. I mean truely cares. Sure a handfull of people discuss it on forums like these, and sure there may be a polititian that speaks against it. But the military keeps getting stronger, the polittians keep taking away our "rights", the police keep abusing theis authority, big brother snooping keeps spreading, and the wars (for whose benefit?) keep spreading throughout the world with absolutely no end in sight.

Does anyone... ANYONE??? actually think anything can be done about any of this now? Does anyone think the government will actually give of this power back? Maybe if we just vote Republican next time? But wait... the democrat was going to change all of this... remember?!?

But hey... let's just keep bitching about it here on ATS and make ourselves feel better.

Like we're making some kind of difference.

Well taking a look at all the scandals that are hitting the administration, makes you wonder:

Benghazi
AP wire tapping
donator scandal (breaking Friday or Monday)
Fast and Furious
Unwillingness to prosecute Wall Street because too big to jail
Campaign to label Patriots as domestic terrorists
IRS targeting Tea Party

The hits keep on coming.

Most of this is just Obama's second term. For a more complete picture, I think it is important to go back and look at what was expanded and continued from the Bush years during Obama's first term.

You should research "The Little Rock Nine".

In 1957 Arkansas Governor Faubus used the Arkansas National Guard to defy the Supreme Court ruling and block the integration of Central High School.

Pres. Eisenhower deployed the 101st Airborne to enforce the integration of the high school and also federalized the Arkansas National Guard, taking them out of the control of Gov Faubus.

As far as the OP source goes, as my gramps would say..."a bunch of malarkey".

The Long Island Press isn't the only source. Here for example is a legal opinion article on Jurist.org from May 2, 2013, which was prior to the Long Island Press article:

JURIST ARTICLE: Lawful Military Support To Civil Authorities In Times of Crisis

It links to a copy of this Department of Defense Instruction Document:

Defense Support of Civilian Law Enforcement Agencies

As others have pointed out, at least some of the language is not new. It's not clear what is new, you would probably need a good compare of the various past iterations to the latest to see what actually did change.

This is good. The military trains in many cases much more often than law enforcement. And with equip that law enforcement would only dream of having.

I know what everyone thinks but, there is also a positive side to this. Most of the people, in the military are, Patriots and have SWORN to protect Our Country and Constitution. There are many more of them than, there
are Politicians, in the Military. I trust the Men and Women of our Military to protect us for Our Goverment and
"Homeland Security".

The only thing that is required is confirmation of the story, nothing is "drivel" except perhaps your bias.

there is no confirmation of the story - it has been established by the posters here that the US military did not grant itself anything and such changes as may have been made that give it power were not done recently.

it is drivel because it is a specious beatup that is proven false. It is classic disinfo.
