Has anyone thought they might be mentioning pressure cookers for another reason? Think about it, ban pressure cookers and canning and preserving food becomes more difficult. It would fit right along with the recent monsanto laws and the EU's new plant regulations.
edit on 14-5-2013 by dug88 because: (no reason given)

Possible. I'm going to get mine within the month (pressure cooker), just because I may not be able to in a few months if this crap keeps up. Remember the guy arrested for bringing some rice in a pressure cooker?

I'm still researching the best one for the buck, and our needs. (as we eventually plan to do some home-canning).

I still can't fathom why on Earth he wouldn't just buy it once here though....or think to get through with an altered passport.

this smells a wee bit.

for one thing i have seen warnings recently about watching "immigration people" or anyone else who handles your passport with both eyes never letting it out of your sight, as there is a cute game they play, where they tear out pages. it is normally attributed to poorer countries, especially India, and normally it;s about getting cash or just to hassle someone they don't like. but who knows you have to wonder if this happened here? either in the states or even in another country he traveled through. got someone you don't like but everything is ok with his passport? just tear a page out, problem solved, let the games begin.

The US has regulations on the type of pressure cooker that is allowed to be imported, manufactured, and sold in America. The really good pressure cookers don't meet the US regulations, so you'd have to buy them abroad and bring them in yourself.

This has to do with the psi of the pressure cooker. I think the max psi allowed in the US is 15 psi. The higher the psi the shorter the cooking time. So, if someone required an 18 psi pressure cooker, he'd have to buy it abroad and carry into the US himself. It's allowed as personal item, but not as commercial import.

Not to mention, it was probably wired up for a non-US 240Volt or something circuit. Totally does not make sense. Even if he was using it as a Faraday cage for his sensitive electronics with all these solar flares going on, it still wouldn't make sense to me.

I am surprised TSA was suspicious. I thought they were too busy frisking three year old's to notice a pressure cooker.

Who in the hell travels with a pressure cooker?!

Depends on where he was coming from and how did he even get into the airport with the pressure cooker??? Was it in a box and sealed up or what? If he had just a pressure cooker with no other elements for a bomb I'd say this is BS.
