I fear that a nation gripped with fear will stop at nothing to prevent another nation from emerging as competition, and thus endangering its monopoly of global hegemony.

I fear a government intent on controlling the worlds resources.

I fear a people who have chosen to forsake logic, and instead have chosen the lethal combination of arrogance and ignorance.

I fear the reemergence of the fascist beast.

Theres more to life u no

Is it just me or is there something a little off base with this response to someone sharing candidly and answering the question?

Thanks for sharing DigitalGrl, there is nothing wrong with being a 19 year old by the way, or seeing the world through your own eyes. Your fear is not such a mystery to me, having been one once.

Fear.

It seems to me that as soon as FDR proclaimed, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" we began to emulate it in our actions.

Throughout the cold war, we were afraid. Now, it seems we are more afraid than we have ever been. We watch TV which tells us all of the different ways there are to die, and why and how we become more prone to the ways. Our government greatly overstates our vulnerability to terrorist attack, while ensuring that we are, in fact, more vulnerable, perpetuating the fear. They use our fear to launch unwarranted pre-emptive strikes against targets that do not represent anything to be afraid of, and as a result put us in more grave danger.

What am I afraid of? I'm afraid the American people will succumb to a kind of consumption from the fear that they embrace, willingly, and without cause. Maybe we just like to be afraid...

Why do we watch with our eyes glued to the fear-producing propoganda and the actuall realities around the world that are indeed scary? Just another addiction, I say.

"In times like these people walk the streets looking over their shoulders..."

1. Street violence?
The fear of being mugged is a high priority in NY, being vigilant
and observant of my surroundings has keep me safe.
But this would be counted as my first fear, as it would most likely
occur, and does most often occur than a terrorist attack.
It's a one on one crime.

2. Terrorism?
This would be be my secound fear, as it is more than likely to occur,
and in high numbers... devastating... and I don't know when/how.
Here too I remain vigilant of my surroundings.

3. War?
If it will come to our nation...

The dark. More precisely, what lies in the dark that I don't know is there. If I know something can't hurt me, I am not scared. However, if something can hurt me or loved ones, I am cautious, calm, not running around throwing up all over the place. Being on this board as a wee 12 year old influenced me a great deal. For a long time, I had many nightmares of chupacabras. It is my imagination that gets me.

Walking down the street in the night when no one else is awake is very scary for me. I am looking back and forth at the slightest gust of wind.

War? Terrorism? They have become something I know I can't prevent. No fear there. If I can do something though, I will.

i dont really fear a war comming to Australia. I would accept it, and defend my friends but i would not be trying to defend the way of life. The Modern-Anglo-English way of life today is so, depressing. I would welcome a chance to rebuild our country.

I fear not having somebody to love in my life.

I fear nothingness. I fear the thought of no thought, the emotion of indifference. I fear a day when I wake up and am unaffected by the wind brushing my cheeck, a child smiling in my diretion, a kiss upon my lips giving me no feeling other than a physical touch. I fear a time where thought is unnapreciated, where passion is valued as negligible, where my mind is cut and sold with no more reverence than to be used as a paperweight rahter than a collection of ideas to better the world. I fear dieing and having no thought. I fear my soul not escaping from my body, not because it is trapped but because it does not exist.

I fear passion leaving the hearts of humanity. I fear dreamless sleep I shall not awaken from. I fear the world dozing off into a state of emptiness with no life before it, and no salvation after it.

I fear blank. I fear void. I fear that which is more depressing than despair, I fear nauhgt.

Hmmm...

Even amid this whole atmosphere of "external" sources of fear - like terrorism, or war - I think what I fear most is being too lazy and complacent in my own life to do what I need to do to make me really happy.

But I also fear for my family. I fear that something may happen to my parents, who of course are only getting older, and I live too far away to be there with them. I fear that my brother, who is an Army reservist and is only 22, will be deployed to war. This has been weighing more heavily on my mind after the election.

listen WEIRDO,

i didn't realise having a fear of war being faught on my own soil was such an insignificant thing. this forum was asking for people to list things that they were afraid of. and that happened to be one of mine. it is not like i think about it all the time or anything and yes there are other things in this world that i am afraid of like spiders for instance. i don't care for them too much. but i didn't really think that would be too interesting to list. you should stop jumping on people for talking about the things that they FEEL. there is more to life ya know

p.s. i would just like to thank RELENTLESS for steping in on my behalf. much appreciated.

WOW.Sensitive people
. Sorry l know the net is full of people taking the crap but that was not my intention.

My point was that at ninteen you shouldn`t be affraid of that as it is such a minor insignifi# idea feed to you by your media in a country which is obsessed with defending itself from forces that are so small and weak. The rest of the world has had to deal with much great threats to there freedom than you guys would even know.I have relatives that have lived through the days of Franco in Spain.A country that you could not speak to people about your political views as you at best would be beaten in the streets.I have personnelly seen the destruction caused on the streets of London by the IRA and to live in fear of doing everyday things like catching the tube.I have seen the destruction in Spain caused by ETA and l have a relative in prison for his association with that terror group.I have seen the road blocks by armed police on the streets of BIlbao and been searched and the fear of ordinary people affraid of the Guardia Civil police who thirty years ago they would inforce Francos rule now treating ordinary Basque people as Terrorist who are just as being of the next car bomb or shooting to the back of the head.I guy in the town l used to live in was shoot dead as he left for work his crime was he was a postman working for the Spainish and made the mistake one day of being to outspoken to the wrong guys in a bar. These two terrorist groups were run by people who didn`t hide in caves. They were out in the open and a lot more deadly than OBL.they didn`t succeed in killing as many people in one go but there way of terrorising people was more deadly and made everybody lives a living hell. You are lucky you can speak openly in the streets without having to think who you are talking to.

My point was you are talking about a fear of an event l doubt you have experiance of that is paranoia. You live in a country that has jumped on the 9/11 and taken it to extreme. You have allowed the Terrorists to win. They are called Terrorist because of the Terror they cause if you live in fear of that you have lost.

You need to realise that people do react to comments, I`m not anti American.

Sorry if l offended you tact was never my strong point
