Why do people read Natural News and believe what they read, for one, I read the actual source document and saw whatever it is they are proposing, isn't even applicable to citizens:

As under this Regulation the definition of operator does not include private persons,
the term 'professional operator' is used. Professional operators are defined by a single
definition and shall be registered to ease the control activities. This register shall be
combined with the register established under [title of the new Plant Health
Regulation]. Basic obligations will be introduced for professional operators
concerning the identification of the plant reproductive material they are producing or
making available on the market, keeping of records, facilitation of controls and
maintenance of the material. The traceability of any plant reproductive material is
ensured by the obligation for the professional operators to have information one step
before and one step after their commercial activities.

Granted, I don't feel like reading through the entire document to get the full story (as I don't care that much) but I can say with good certainty, once again, it's quite likely, Natural News is talking out their ass.

I agree with your comment about naturalnews as a crap news source but what is your take on how this legislation affects the mixing of plant materials between commercial producers and "people's" plants? Because that's what plants do. Mix their "components". The randy bastards.

Why would you comment if you "don't care that much?" Slow night?

I'll take your feedback in the context in which it was given.

Lets say I run corporation XYZ and I have bred blue pears, whether it be from genetic engineering or from traditional hybridization or whatever it might be that gets me blue pears. Well lets say Citizen X (lets say thats you) is growing pears in their back yard, and all of a sudden they pop up blue one year. Seems my pear farm down the road fertilized your pear trees.

Well, in such circumstances I feel it is totally unacceptable for company XYZ to chase after you for either monetary reward, or simply to order the trees cut down. Beyond that I couldn't give a rats ass.

I was under the impression the EU doesn't allow much GMO goings on over there however. And if corporations want to protect their intellectual property (Make a tulip a certain colour etc.) they should have every right to.

What Natural News thinks is going on is beyond me. They are either all mentality deficient, or they just make money on spearheading government fear porn. My guess is on the latter...

So first of all, we stopped this f...ing law for now, as we organized big protests. Translate it with google,

And when you want to know who is behind this crime law? Check the AMERICAN company MONSANTO.

Governments have been throwing people in jail for possessing seeds and growing plants for decades, with the full support and blessing of most of you, who have voted over and over again in support of the concept. I don't know why anyone should be surprised by this.

I must say, I have absolutely no faith in naturalnews as a source. Some of thier past obsfucations and lies have really aggravated me, and wasted significant space on the boards as it is.

I am always amazed how, even after others like Aloysius the Gaul and Boncho have shown the op's source to be a deliberate misinterpretation of the facts, people will prattle on and wallow in their own ignorance.

Far too many people seem to believe the motto of ATS is "embrace ignorance" as long as what is said conforms to their world view, no matter how distorted.

Well I wouldn't be against the idea of banning homegrown GMO's.

I think the authorities should have natural seeds to give in exchange if the GMO's are confiscated.

Win/win situation, a move like this would definitively enhance the respect and appreciation of my government.

Hot damn i could not have said it any better.

People need to realize that the gov can only take what is willingly given up.

People need to draw a hard line and stand on it.

If you go back and look at the original stories that Natural News is using, you will find that they're not a very reliable source. They tend to react hysterically to most things, and this is another case where they're making a tempest out of a teapot.

The law (at their link) reads:

This combination aims at striking a balance between flexibility for professional operators (option 2 and 4) and
biodiversity (option 4) and the necessary rigor in health and quality requirement (elements of option 2 and 5) for the fair functioning of the market and for maintaining the quality and health of plant reproductive material. This is combined with elements allowing minor crops or crops with particular uses low-burden access to specific or small market segments, but with coupled minimum obligations ensuring traceability, health and information to the
consumer so that a level playing for a ll professional operators is established.

In other words, they're NOT coming for your seeds. But if you breed a new variety (for example, Monsanto's new offerings) you will run up against the law. Note also that it's supportive of the small organic farmer and herb grower.

Yeah im gunna eat all those people. Not allowed to plant seeds? making a law like this should be a deadly sin.

Im kinda choked i had to read that. People are stupid. Well in oct il be a god by then and i can smite/devour those clowns or find inventive ways to kill them like shoving seeds down their throat and having the plants grow from the inside out.

Now that would be entertaining.

Pretty much this.
If its from NaturalNews, its a sensationalist lie.

Not once, ever, in all the threads where people have used it as a source, has it ever been seen that its reporting was an accurate telling of the facts.

You quote Naturalnews. I don't have to read anymore. I have never ever read anything on that site then traced back to the FULL COMPLETE ORIGINAl and found any comparison. That site cons people into their warped view of the world by selective out of context quotes and mis representing the truth.....

If you read that site and believe what you read then fool you......sorry if the truth hurts.

Some common sense must prevail over there..........

Hollow threats by ignorant bubble living parasites.

Try and do this in France and you would get laughed at. Nobody stops anyone doing what they want here unless the full tilt of bureaucracy is in tow, and following up on laws entails brains which nobody here is willing to use because they always see it as someone else's job and in the long run it keeps all the 32 hour a weekers employed by passing the buck.

Just another ploy to push ideas for the future where big brother rules. I'll be dead by then so I don't care.

Departmental funding at it's finest.

Thank goodness this is just in Europe... (though sucks for you guys, and hope you can defeat it).

This kind of idea is one reason I chose my garden spot in a kind of "hidden" area of my property (at least from the street). It would still be pretty visible from the air though.

I suspect if this was tried here, we'd avoid garden "rows" and plant more haphazardly to "hide" them from the air. Growing your own food should NOT be criminalized, but a basic right.

And growing the wrong things for your area isn't idiocy...it's laziness. I've been researching my garden plans for months prior to committing the time and money to the enterprise, to maximize its success. The info is out there, free for the taking.
