I shared a short non-partisan article with the Board this morning before I left the house for work. It was a well-written short piece by a well respected non-governmental public servant.

This afternoon when I went to look at the replies, I was disappointed to find that most of the responses were mere reactions to the title and/or just another iteration of a individuals personal 'thang'.

Every morning before work, I look at a few news sites. While growing up, in the US and abroad, my parents read the newspaper every morning over breakfast and coffee. Nearly everyone did, if they wanted to be considered informed to offer an opinion of their own on the subjects of the time.

What do you read every day for your news?

I found ATS while looking for a regular site for 'fringe' subjects that interest me a bit but not enough to spend too much time at.

I look at Alternet and Al Jerzerra everyday or nearly so. I like to check in with the sadly declining Christian Science Monitor.

Where do you look for information and sources that you trust? Where do you look for facts not spin (as much as possible)? Where do you go to better your mind (if interested)?

Almost all the news is corrupted in some way. You'll see some breakthrough stuff on ATS, right next to some dumb stuff. Its really like that anywhere. My strategy is to get an amalgamation from many sources. I watch CNN, RT read AJ when I get a chance. I check Bill O'Reilly Drudge report for conservative opinion, I check Rachel Maddow and some various leftist sites for progressive ideas. (huffingtonpost is the standar) I watch ATS for fringe, Wired/Slashdot for technology and commentary, and check some financial sites for broad business information.

I pretty much read them all, if I can. Especially if a certain story is making the rounds of all the sites. I like to see what they put out and their audience thinks with the comments.

I also like the eMags such as, CNet, Wired, Business Insider and the sort.

But I will always find time for ATS. The members here have steered me to stories and websites that I would have missed. For that, I’m grateful.

I use Twitter. I follow people/topics that are of interest to me, e.g., Science Daily, ATS, . Generally, things of more interest are tweeted, things of less interest aren't. I tried using newsreaders to aggregate various sources, but I find it becomes overwhelming very quickly, and I simply don't have the time to read all this crap. I really don't like Crackbook because it's too personal and I don't care if you are wiping your bottom at the moment.

Twitter seems to work for me.

Well OP, I look at the usual suspects everyday of course. CNN, Fox, RT, Al Jazeera and PressTV ... I have Breakingnews.com on a side screen on and off on regular intervals as well as RSOE on the same basis. A few Wikileaks type sites I don't make a habit of talking about for obvious reasons ..but aren't that hard to find if someone wants to ... and then a variety of national/regional papers and local sources in nations of interest to whatever is happening across a given week in the news, overall.

That about covers the routine stuff.

Everytime I get online to read news I check ATS, CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews, Drudgereport, almost always in that order.

I figure after hearing from the left, right, tabloids, and paranoids I have some vague idea of what's happening

I always browse the internet instead of watching anything by Fox, MSNBC, or CNN. To be honest I cannot watch the news because the announcers always have something stupid to say. Instead of reporting the news. With the internet I can check what is going on at home or around the world. Also I have a chance to see the latest in science too. Awesome. Skip the talking heads and read the news online.

Driving: I listen to NPR in the mornings. I listen to conservative talk radio in the evenings.
Watching TV: Local news, national news and Rachel Maddow. Jon Stewart at the end of the week.
Internet: Think Progress, Talking Points Memo, reddit.

I used to try and temper myself by going to Drudge and WND but it got frustrating after a while. I also avoid HuffPo like the plague.

I only come to ATS to get the 'real' feel of the news. The actual opinions of actual people that gain nothing from spouting off.

Interesting that the majority of replies so far don't look at sources outside the USA/North American perspective.

Or did folks just forget to list them?

Great topic question :-)

I usedto consider myself a news junkie, but that's changed recently. It's all too depressing and your just left with the feeling of hopelessness.

I used to listen to BBC and LBC in the morning then watch Channel4 news and Newsnight. I still watch channel 4 news, because its normally when I have my dinner and I consider it the best presented of the evening news options.

But out of the thousands of news reports that come out each year, very few effect me or my family or friends, so I don't see the point in engrossing myself in it all now. Maybe ignorance is bliss, but there's no point in watching the daily fear mongering comming from the talking box, only for it to have a negative impact on your life.

If there is something major happening, it will be on ATS, if there's something major not happening, it can also be found here. I get to choose whether I open the thread or not.

I read FITSNews.com everyday. The editor has some of the best commentary on politics, both national and his home state of South Carolina. I love his independent spirit and his gentle but serious attitude.

I also read RealClearPolitics.com. Every day they have a long list of new articles, commentary, videos, and polls during election season. You can't possibly read all of them (and most of them you'd never want to), but the headlines are enough to check the pulse of the country.

I look at the drudge report first - watch the foxnews/weatherchannel for a few minutes, look at the dreaded BIN for the whacko stories - bothe BIN and drudge get their stories from other sources, thus looking at just about everything - including RT, BBC, Gaurdian - you get the picture - don't believe anything right off the bat.

ATS has the best breaking news ever - that's why I subscribed - and for the quake watch/LA sinkhole thread.

If I'm not working - I try to watch the video of the big hearings on TV - it was really hard to watch the latest kerry thing on syria, but tried to take it in without throwing up.

If you can force yourself to actually watch CSPann - you can learn a lot - used to watch it before I got hooked on the internet machine.

Generally I try to get an all around perspective but always start at Drudgreport then, Zerohedge, Daily Caller, Raw Story, Guardian, Telegraph, NZ Herald, Sydney Morning Herald, Blacklistednews, RT, Al Jazeera, Radio Free Europe, Japan Today, Vice and SHTFPlan. Usually in that order.

That at least gives some perspective, left, right and non-US.

Well I usually wake up, turn on the computer before work and check out Google news just for head lines, Check the market, then ATS to see what people are yammering about (some members have some really cool news posts and threads BTW), Then I jump to YouTube to get my Earth and Space weather forecast from Suspicious0bservers, check to see if a crazy Jewish catholic dude has said anything new, and pray that Gerald Celente has put up a video.

Then I take all the information read and watched and make a mental webbot prediction in my head of what's going on while taking a huge dump on the toilet until my legs fall asleep, then I crawl into the shower.

Wait.. you didn't ask about the poop and shower did you...well if the NSA knows why shouldn't you.
