And I asked you to prove he was blocking either cars and/or pedestrians.

He's on the sidewalk! Anybody with a brain can determine that at some point a pedestrian will need to get around his bike. What if a man in a wheelchair was coming down the sidewalk? I can't tell from the video how much room is between his bike and the building, but, again, anyone with a brain can see that this cop needs to walk more than he is and it wouldn't kill him to actually park in a legitimate parking spot.

So if a bike carrying a baby trailer parked there you would give him a ticket? The bike and trailer takes up more space than this motorcycle. Or maybe a ice cream vendor would get a ticket? Or only cops?

So it would be ok if the cop wasn't overweight? You sound pretty tough behind our keyboard. Anyways until this is posted somewhere besides Reddit or ATS I guess it's not that big of a deal since nothing illegal was done.

Did you not hear the kid in the video asking the cop why his MOTORIZED VEHICLE is parked on the sidewalk?
Dang!
If I could give you an award for being the most obtuse member on ATS, I would.

Calling out the Cops....like you think it's always a good thing.

When it is appropriate...can you demonstrate where the OP has advocated this to be an "always," type situation?

It makes you feel good about a 12 year old asking a cop a bunch of useless questions. The cop looks like he is just getting a drink. It looks sunny and if its a recent video it's probably pretty hot where ever he is. Yes, its probably illegal to park on the sidewalk but last time I checked he wasn't hurting anyone.

I have parked illegally before, never hurt anyone when I did so, yet received a ticket for doing so...nice try at moral and ethical equivalency....

He was probably there for 5 minutes max. Just another video that will get more publicity for what is it because people like you are questioning everything police officers do like there is some sort of conspiracy

There is nothing wrong with questioning illegal actions performed by any class of citizenry, especially those charged with upholding the laws they are sworn to uphold...

By the way, this is precisely why I advocate EVERYONE getting a camera and operating the camera as much as possible when in public...we are living in a VERY LITIGIOUS SOCIETY...and a camera can clear your keister when wrongfully accused...

No, the fact that he's overweight and parking as close to the store's door as possible so he doesn't have to walk so far is evidence that he's a lazy cop who is below standard. Can you see this "officer" trying to run after a suspect? I bet he cuts corners all the time on the job. His reports are probably only satisfactory and lacking details. He most likely does just enough to get by without being reprimanded.

Parking a motorized vehicle on a sidewalk is not always illegal. I have the same question. Can someone show me where it says that what he is doing is illegal? I have looked and I cannot find it and no he is not blocking the sidewalk, there is plenty of room to go around his bike.

Saying that everybody "knows" its illegal doesn't make it illegal.

I have gone through several forums and nobody can PROVE he did anything illegal. From what I did find though, this is actually completely legal for an on duty police officer to do in many cities.

Great thread, ignore the argument baiters and their self righteous attempts to be relevant. It doesn't take a genius to see whats going on here.

Illegal is illegal. Whether or not someone is hurt by an illegal action is moot.

It looks like he is parked outside a store, not on public property. So... maybe if the owner had said something to the cop. Not really the kids place.

I would wager that there are laws that say that parking on a sidewalk outside of a store is illegal. The reason would be fire zones and such. In fact, I remember when I was growing up I would always see signs that said No Parking, Skateboarding, Loitering in fire zones.

Can you just walk up to cops and demand badge numbers?

Yes.

I've done some research after that...now it's unclear and unlikely if any laws were actually broken.

Parking any vehicle on any sidewalk is illegal...unless specifically allowed by local code and clearly marked.

never has to identify him/herself unless they are arresting or questioning you

They always have to. How could someone make a complaint otherwise? Or do the States write laws saying that cops can act belligerently without penalty, so long as he's not arresting or questioning someone?

You validated your own point. Being passive aggressive doesn't make you seem cool.
