It seems that parents in Colorado are buying their children bullet proof uniforms for their kids in response to the maniac attack in Aurora.

"The pink bulletproof rucksack that 5-year-old Jaliyah wears to school every day reaches almost down to her knees and weighs 3lbs even when empty, but for her Colorado father, the size and solidity are part of the attraction.

"If you put it on her back, it almost covers her whole body," explains Demitric Boykin. "It was a very hard conversation to have but she knows that it's something that will keep her safe."

Lined with ballistic material that can stop a 9mm bullet travelling at 400 metres per second, the backpack is only one of a clutch of new products making their way into US schools in the wake of Newtown school massacre. As gun control legislation grinds to halt in Washington, a growing number of parents and teachers are taking matters into their own hands."

I guess you cannot blame them in view of the Senate's refusal to pass any new gun control legislation.

Some firms are offering training courses for schools in protection from attacks. Nice little earner!

The right to bear arms is so important for Americans to be American. Sod the kids.

Seems the company missed the boat....don't they know shooters ONLY use Assault Rifles?

The illusion of safety.

I like how the parents that do this do take into account the fact that the kinetic energy transferred from a bullet into a armor of some sort would be enough to knock the kid out cold, possibly kill them.

these kids are going to have a lifetime of back issues for protection from the .0001% chance that they could get shot at school.

We should just allow kids to take guns to school, each can have two handguns or 1 shotgun. After all they are AMERICAN CITIZENS and therefore their right to protect themselves and to bear arms shall NOT be INFRINGED.

Poor kid will probably grow up to be paranoid, have back problems, and will probably be bullied at school for being "different"

Pffft….as if a piece of paper was going to prevent anything!

How well are the other few hundred laws working?

Nice way to work in the anti-gun agenda.

We really do exude the scene of a society profoundly ignorant and so blissfully comfortable in the same.

Here we have a country whose culture has mutated horribly; declining into a cesspool violence without the slightest hint of a moral compass but yet, we ignore the causes and spend our efforts to remedy the surface symptoms.

Outlaw guns?
Arm teachers?
Outlaw ammo?
Arm students?

The obvious is so damned obvious that it really takes somebody who does not want to see it and call it for what it is... to not see it and call it what it is.

In view of all the sanctomonius stuff about the Boston Bombing these victims of routine shootings in the USA are so short changed. You don't hear of companies or states banning gun ownership or severely restricting the ownership out of solidarity of gun killings. But you do get a company withdrawing the sale of pressure cookers

Gun murder victims just have to lump it.

This was temporary. Restricting the ownership of guns would ideally be permanent.
Both not right, but temporary pulling pressure cookers is not as bad as completely banning guns.

Silly, neurotic parents, preparing for an event that is extremely unlikely to happen.

Never mind, it'll be another nice little earner for someone, and provides employment...

It would make more sense to me,
and given that children can run pretty well,
to teach the children to jump out the school room windows
and run like a halfback in an open field with the football.

Bullet proof chastity belts and bras for teenage daughters would be a good invention.

Psst....! ...the title of your thread says "bullt" instead of "bullet." ...and also "the the." One "the" will suffice.

Bullet proof vests for kids. Man,who would have ever thought it would come to that? Certainly not me.

This is just...wow.

1. Living life with fear..is not living life.
2. Citizens having to protect each other instead of the government/security...what's the whole purpose of paying taxes towards military and security for the government?

Either way, number 1 is a sign that this world has already gone to hell.

It won't stop you from being killed. It will hurt really bad to get hit from a pistol just imagine a rifle. It will stop the 5.56 rounds but not all of them. After taking so many hits your still going to die. Also once the attacker realizes your not dying hes going to walk up on you and put one in your head.

Armed guards and armed teachers is the only way to stop mass shootings in schools because USA will never change their violent culture. There is no other way, no law will ever stop these massacres. Politicians are just making you guys think that laws will stop them so the can strip more of our freedoms away.

Of course nothing is bullet proof, just bullet resistant.

A level three vest with plates is heavy...and way expensive.

They could buy the kids level 2 items...but that won't protect against crap.

They could fork out the cash for level 4 stuff....but that is currently illegal for civilians to own.

BTW, unless rated for it - knife attacks would go through a level 3 vest without plates. People need to stop believing everything they see in the movies.

The bullet may not penetrate but the kinetic energy could still kill her. I could see It improving her chances some, but she's going to be screaming if it breaks her back or arms. I just don't think it's a worthy investment.

Teachers who want to conceal carry, and had training would be a nice counter; they are probably your best bet.
