BRITONS left their country in record numbers in 2003, but new immigrants to Britain outweighed those departing, figures released today show.
The Office for National Statistics said a record 190,900 British citizens left to live abroad for 12 months or more in 2003, up more than 5000 over the previous year.
Those from Commonwealth countries such as Australia, New Zealand, India, Nigeria, Jamaica, Bangladesh and Pakistan, accounted for the second largest group of immigrants, a total of 107,300.
