England blocking internet?

Hope this is the right area, Mods feel free to move it if necessary.

I have family in England right now for a vacation that started over a week ago. I have been emailing them, and like everyone else, we too are talking about the Boston Bombings.
In one email I sent, it included a youtube video, some articles from MSM and an Alex Jones video. The person I'm corresponding with had replied (or tried to) with the same type of info. Our conversation on the topic in general was the lack of trust we have for the stories from MSM as well as the likely scenario of our gov't using tactics that infamous historical parties once used. So, using history, info from independent new sources and our own general ability to read between the lies, the family member is now locked out of his accounts. I received a phone call from him telling me that his email, as well as his internet browser, has locked him out and he does not have access. His thoughts don't stretch as far as mine do when it come to belief of what our governments are willing to do for control (he's an old schooler but catching up) which is why I was surprised when he told me it was because of the data we had shared.

Can anyone shed some light on this? What is the situation there when it come to media control and information sharing? I never had the impression of these types of doings over there, but it could all be new.

His internet browser has locked him out? How does that even happen?

His email has locked him out? Has he forgotten his password?

I can't think of a single circumstance in which there would be the "media control" you might be referring to. Even if your data sharing involved planning a terrorist attack or downloading child porn (which would undoubtedly trigger an alert somewhere, and would already have resulted in your family member becoming acquainted with our legal system), there would be no sense at all in blocking his internet access.

Calling the Prime Minister a Nazi? No, we're free to be able to do that. Discussing the Boston Bombings? Ditto. Alex Jones? Completely unheard of in this country. No, I really think this will be the result of a very mundane technical problem, and not an encounter with the forces of darkness.

Nothing happening here in Scotland, maybe next time you wait until you have posted enough before you make a post especially in intros......

Thanks. Like I said before, I had never thought of this type of control really being in place in any western world. It is possible he jumped to conclusions. He said 'browser', but now that I think about it, he has trouble differentiating between the browsers and internet providers. I was assuming the internet connection he was using blocked him (hotel internet). He's not one to come up with that idea alone and wouldn't assume anyone would actively pursue the disruption of his access to any communication/information point. He's not a person who thinks the government would infringe on these types of rights. That being said, the mere reason he thought that, and the tone in his voice, led me to posting this here to find out more.

Welcome to the site. I haven't heard anything about this. There are a few members from England that posted today I think.

I am in the UK, and I can confirm that there are internets.

Hi, internet working fine here in North England.

I will point out that I have been busy lately removing malware from a lot of infected systems that has been locking people out of their browser, and in some some cases their whole computer.

This can range from fake antiviruses to full screen demands for money (claiming to be the Met Police, and they have found child porn on the computer, pay up or be nicked).

In some cases the malware can change the proxy settings for the internet connection, which can lead to dodgy websites, or simply the localhost.

Have them download (on another computer if needed) malwarebyes (Google it) and run it on the suspected infected computer.

Also have them go to control panel > internet options > connections > LAN settings, make sure proxy server is unticked.

All this assuming they are on a windows based system.....if they are a dirty MacHead I can't help.

Indeed...

The only websites blocked in the UK are those linked with Pirate Bay type file sharing, but that is because of an EU law and I believe the same applies elsewhere, including the US. Oddly enough though, child porn and terrorist related material is still freely available, even if it does usually attract the attention of the Fuzzletons.

Me thinks the OP's family member is having a well known technical issue - the "USER error"..

So he's using a hotels internet service and now can't access the internet and the first thing you tell him is that it's probably the UK blocking his access for discussing conspiracies.

HELLO???

Wouldn't every UK member have issues logging into ATS were that the case?

He probably forgot to pay for the next 24 hours, or didn't realise it was a daily rate....

Bloody expensive though, Hotel internet.. Cheaper to use 3G on your mobile
