Its as I've said before, Obama, the media and many Democrats in Congress are intentionally misrepresenting the reality of that 90% statistic. Yes,
its very likely that 90% support background checks
in a generic sense. The bait-and-switch happens when they start attributing it to any
specific proposal. They're assuming that, just because you support generic background checks, you would also support a specific proposal
like Manchin-Toomey. Very often, that's not the case. As an example, I support background checks; I don't support Manchin-Toomey and I think the
current checks are adequate. Most likely, many gun rights supporters feel the same way. In reality, its likely that support for that bill was FAR
less than any 90%, and that's why even a few Dems jumped ship on it. I suspect that the 49-45 number you posted is probably closer to the reality of
it, with support likely concentrated in urban centers.
This is how you lie with statistics, folks, and how you twist legitimate polling to influence public opinion.
