Greetings, ATS!

I love books and gladly read everything I can get my hands on. I belong to a couple of book circles, and that's great, but they NEVER want to read conspiracy or paranormal/alien literature. I always feel like an idiot when I suggest our next book be Roswell or something similar.

So what I was thinking, we could have a book club here on ATS. How awesome would it be to read some of the great works (non-fiction and fiction) and discuss them with like-minded individuals? To use our collective knowledge base to explore a topic more in depth, perhaps even debunk or uphold theories?

I'm sure there are some folks who'd enjoy a book club. What do you think?

Waiting with my fingers crossed,

Smylee

i love books too but there is a "Literature" forum already.

If you want to share books or suggest books why not just post it in there?

I'm not an idiot, I just play one on ATS.

Hopefully we can put something formal in that forum.

Thanks for the help!

Um I never said you were an idiot.

Why not start it yourself then in that forum.

I didn't mean to imply that you called me anything. Just having a little fun at myself, that's all.

Start one in the literature forum and I'll play just make some rules for book selction the time given to read it (or portions ) and guidelines for posting say a rating system like stars or whatever followed by one's comments for fiction and a book review format for non-fiction, say veracity, content, credibility of sources, usefulness, and things like that.

...of all the things I wouldn't have thought would be a sensitive topic, good grief!

I thought it was a good idea.

I am currently reading the "Elemental Masters" fiction series by Mercedes Lackey. I just finished "Home From the Sea" which I really liked, and now I am reading "The Serpent's Shadow." I think the author does a great job of describing how "magic" and "reality" inter mingle and how that works in our world (although the novels take place in the past).

I think that a book club forum or similar is a fantastic idea. I also love to read, and I would love it if ATS had a forum for discussion of our various journeys on the path of the word. Im a massive nut for sci-fi books, espionage thrillers, crime and mystery fiction, fantasy, and so on and so forth, and having a forum for talking about those books would be quite a lot of fun.
