What would you do?

So i sit here thinking to myself "what would happen if the USA got invaded by another country" I watched the new Red Dawn- IT SUCKED COMPARED TO THE OLD ONE- but what if NK did invade U.S. What would you're first plan of action be? What would you do in this new threat? It's clear that United States of America has never had an invasion of enemy troops. But what if it did happen? I would like to hear the opinions of the ATS community. Its one of those-you show me yours and I'll show me mine-type of questions.

IMO it would most likely be china or russia that invaded.

What would you're first plan of action be?
grab the bug-out bag and get the hell out of dodge.

keep a strong & level headed mindset. no panic, no fear.

I say they'd be stupid to invade this country. I'm pretty sure you heard about the California Gun Buyback, people had RPG's. It's legal to own fighter jets in the U.S. so there are quite a few of those around, whether owned by retired servicemen or regular pilots. You can own tanks in the United States. If it came down it our countries citizens are pretty armed and ready for combat with anyone who wants it. I can assure you it wouldn't play out like Red Dawn, they wouldn't have even made it to our coast. If we had to we'd shoot a call to Israel to take care of the air, they'd be yawning while they did it.

If i was one man, i would find a militia group or form my own(even if its members included only me). I would take refuge in the forests I grew up in, and survive. In my act of surviving, I would scout enemy supply lines, and do what i could to thwart the enemy's efforts, if I could do so while preserving my life.

But since......... I have little ones, I would take them as far north as I could. I would then cross either ocean and live as survivalists, or refuges, it wouldn't matter living as a refuge as long as my girls lived, But..... in my trek north if i was able to find a remote place that was free of enemy's, I would most likely take hold and live life, and in living living life I would try and find other people to live the wood life. In conclusion I would be a wild-ling.

IF! this all happened, and my little ones happened to be of age I would expect them to fight along side of me, if they choose, if not, I would give them the tools, supply's and knowledge to make it across the ocean(or any remote spot) to a place which is safe. Either way, I will stay at home;.

Like the other poster, I think the invasion scenario would have to be Russia or China and not Korea.
No matter who the invaders were, they'd be da^n fools to come into the south. We southerners are funny about stuff like that, there would be a red neck with plenty of gun power behind each tree. I am an old southern woman but I would fight to protect the U.S.from invaders.

Two: Head for the hills ? ( Strategic withdrawal.. Return to fight another day. )

Three: Make a stand, ( Cue title song from the film " THe Alamo " ) And feel self righteous,
and patriotic, but more likely, dead....

Difficult decision, but I think I'll choose number one, having a strong sense of self preservation...

if those sh*t heads invaded us, i would simply ration food, make ieds, try to band family and friends together, do as much damage as i can to them, but still i would want to live to fight another day, i would give those liberal dbags a good reason why i have a m4 with the bumpfire stock....


basically i would do things to make there time here as unpleasnt as i can haha

I would be very surprised if any potential invasion force(be they North Korean or any other nationallity) would even make it into US Airspace/coastal waters,they'd be shredded before they even caught a glimpse of US soil.

I'd go to my neighbor's house. They have really big guns, and a lot of ammo to compliment them. We live in rough terrain too, so we have that on our side. I'd probably die in that situation, but I'd damn well take a few with me first....hypothetically of course.

Well this presents an issue. Any force that would have been able to defeat the regular armed forces of the US is going to require outside help to be defeated. Any succesful resistance requires outside support. Standardization of arms and coordination will require an outside power to assist. People who think a bunch of people with a hodge podge of weapons are going to rise up and drive off an invader are foolling themselves. They will be nothing more than a short term nuisance. So what would I do? Start contacting old contacts over seas and see who is willing to supply what and get with some of my old mil/gov bubbas who hopefuly would still be alive and help plan a real organized resistance.

Yep a lone wolf has it much harder than a pack. However a lone wolf unafraid of death is still a force to be reckoned with even though he is more of a nuisance than an actual threat to the invader's overall operation.

There are those in America that would first cry "can't we all just get along; bake cookies or something" who would for their own survival work for the invaders. History shows many examples of this. Given time and the invaders repelled they usually get what they deserve in the end.

The Americans who would honestly fight back and have the knowledge and skills are sprinkled throughout America and will IMO fight until the fight is either won or they are dead from trying. Dead from trying may not take to long but at least they tried. Myself I would probably steal/rent a helicopter or aircraft and get my family to safety across some border if I felt I could do so without being shot down. If not, where I go the wife goes for she would not have it any other way.

Communication and organization for the wolf packs will be severely limited due to radio intercepts or frequency blocking. If the Wolves can not communicate they do not know where and when to bite. Small 3 to 5 man cells operating independently with cover and concealment might work for a short time until they ran out of supplies or were hunted down and......

Had a friend once tell me, "he hoped he was at ground zero when the first bomb fell" for he did not want to see or live through the mass destruction an invading army would bring. That was over 30 years ago and at the time I thought he was a wuss....now I understand and think maybe he was right; but I also think I would still rather try and try again until my "try" wore out.

I know myself about as well as anyone and I like to think I would do whatever I could for the effort to repel the invaders. But if I were overseas I doubt I would come back (even if I could) unless I had an army/airforce at my side. Gotta know when to hold them and when to fold them IMO.

It's an interesting concept for a fantasy movie and is essentially basically impossible for any foreign country to launch a traditional boots on the ground campaign against the mainland US.

1. Geographic size and makeup of mainland
2. Substantial water on 3 borders
3. Allied country on the northern border.
4. Establishedentrenched defensive force
5. Capable of providing and maintaining it's own infrastructure including growing food

This is usually followed by someone replying to me with a "couldn't prevent 9/11" or "you are just being arrogant"
Depending on what you believe 9/11 was either an inside job or a brilliant tactical move by 20 terrorists. That is a big difference between inside/terrorism and a traditional amphibious assault by massive numbers of troops and associated support vehicles.

An attack from the East or West has to come over water giving us multiple weeks of warning.
An attack from the North would give us multiple weeks to months warning
An attack from the Gulf again comes over water giving us warning though perhaps not as long a warning as over the east or west coast.
The only weak spot really on the borders is the land cross from Mexico. So lets say someone tried that approach, it really wouldn't be that challenging of a process to fortify that area with large numbers of troops.

You have a Ranger Tab in your signature and your user name. I can't honestly believe you think it is tactically feasible or realistic for someone to launch a ground based invasion of the mainland US.

Please note I am not saying their could not be nuclear, EMP, bio, chem, acts of terrorism, internal uprising. It's just that anyone who thinks it is realistic for a successful ground based invasion of the mainland US really must not understand military tactics or basic geography.

last thread here that tried to bring up this point someone pointed to the invasion of Germany as proving that it could happen to which I had to laugh. Given the fact that Germany is smaller that Montana and only has water on 1 border.

Could not agree more with the review of the new Red Dawn..Holy Hell i want that 90 minutes of my life back.

Well, if we DID get invaded by a foreign power, at least DHS would have something other that US (We the People) to shoot those 1.6 billion Hollow point rounds at!

Except for the small fact that during the War of 1812 the mainland US was roughly 1/3 the size that it is now.

It's not even close to the same scenario as the geographic size, technology, infrastructure. military or communications that are currently in place. I'm just amazed that you could even think that would be an accurate comparison.

I would await the military west point protocol to kick in.....

We would nuke the living hell outta whoever attacked us, or step on our soil...

It is an actual protocol...

Then I would head over to my VFW hall, and get some arms, and help my soldiers etc. have my kid help fight and get my wife in a support cause, but chances are it will all be nuked to hell, no electricity, etc. Something along those lines.... Like I said thou, we would Nuke the hell outta the country that did, so it would be a shock to most people in the World..

These are some great answers, and I know it is not feasible for an invasion on the US mainland, but it makes for a great topic of conversation. Now on to my answer! I would gather my family first and foremost, alot of people I work with currently have prior military experience and collectively we have an isolated 6 acres with all we need to bunker down for an extended amount of time. Now from this point alot of people would think about staying low and not being seen, I personally would go looking for all the help I can get be it former military, police or the local hunter all skills are welcome. Now the bigger the group harder it is to hide, so must stake a claim on some smaller secured "Bases" make are claims and set up camp, and always have a retreat. Never think you can hold a spot without a significant force. Once established maintain our ground the best we can, and take as many pop shots as we can, hit and run. Make them that they should have never came. Those are just my thoughts
