Closest thing to "Threat Level Red" would be DEFCON 2.

I think people understand what the article is trying to get at, even if we all know that the proper terminology wasnt used.

An increase in threat level or defcon level is a big, big deal. It doesnt slip under the radar.

Here is some of the language coming out of NK and Kim Jong-Un:

“If they (The U.S.) make a reckless provocation with huge strategic forces, the Korean People’s Army (KPA) should mercilessly strike the US mainland, their stronghold, their military bases in the operational theatres in the Pacific, including Hawaii and Guam, and those in South Korea,” the agency quoted him (Kim Jong-Un) as saying.

Maybe the situation will not get out of control.. here "Russia warns against military activity near North Korea," and this is an article out of IndiaTimes from today 3/29 timesofindia.indiatimes.com...

Russia are coming across as the world mediator right now. I'm sure they would veto any action to launch a strike on Nth Korea just the same as they have and will continue to do regarding Syria. The only way that a war will start is with Nth Korea attacking any country in the region along with US military bases. Unfortunetly, they are being pushed towards an action like that which will give the US a justified reason to retaliate.

Good point about Russia..Out of the Guardian there was this article entitled "North Korea rocket units on standby to attack US bases.." U.S. forces and facilities should obviously be on stand-by even though what we have been seeing up until now has been mainly rhetoric; What we would need are more informations from U.S. forces, and their sources.

Here's that article from The Guardian:
www.guardian.co.uk...
That was 3/28 at around midnight..

Why are there so many NK threads?
They all start with a tid bit of news from the developing situation and then everyone
opines on what it all means and what we are going to do and what they are going to do...etc.

Could the administration just grant someone the official North Korean thread and close the other 50 repeats?

I'd say it could be real info. It is just a matter of time before North Korea is going to do this. It is almost like the USA is edging him on. Whether it is today or in a week or month is just the question. It is not the start of WW111

I was referring to the terminology used in the article in the OP, not the one above. NK has made their intentions clear. Whether they will follow through with them, who knows. They have a leader that is batsh*t crazy and seems to either be 1) delusional or 2) hell bent on making his country a martyr of sorts. Either way, the end result is the end of NK as we know it.

There's a lot of existing discussion on them, and each is on a different aspect. Closing them would be a bit cruel to the original posters. We can try and hit dupes as they come up, but after a few pages of discussion, we let the membership choose which one to keep going, with their posts.

I saw that.. right, the terminology concerning threat levels, and not the comment made by Kim-Jong..
