Now have just seen a trailer for the movie "Olympus has Fallen" (personally looks crap). Anyway the President is taken hostage and the speaker of the house takes over.

In the real world would they really worry about the president being taken hostage. As the president is only a person. Should they live or die would make no real difference as another person would be sworn in, in their place.

So taking the President hostage would be of no value? Just as JFK was assassinated , the government still continued on.

Its the office of the President that is important not the person in it? am I wrong

I haven't heard much about Olympus has fallen other then it is very similar to a very popular authors work. I also heard it shows Koreans stomping on the flag. Interesting especially with the headlines that keep telling us N. Korea doesn't really like us.

I think that the President is more then a person. People vote for the platforms the person represents. I think when people voted last election they voted for Obama, I don't think Biden weighed in much when casting their ballots. Currently the Speaker of the house is on the other team so the person does matter.

Yikes...Biden. He'd leave POTUS as a hostage. Biden has been salivating for that high chair forever. He'd need a bib to catch his drool, though.

Seen the movie...not bad for action etc.

Have to say that it's typically American tho. The flag falling during the attack and rising again at the end...always the flag in these movies.

And then we have the obvious reference to Olympus. Roman Empire reference?

The most sickening part was the Secretary being dragged out by her hair and uttering the pledge of allegiance as her protest instead of what might have been her last words to her family/friends. Such propaganda always makes me a little queasy.

Peace

I would say let them keep him, and they can have Biden too so they can have a matching set! The "man behind the curtain" will pick out a replacement puppet quickly enough that the government wont even skip a beat.

You're probably going to get a knock on your door by some men in suits for this thread

I see what you mean OP that the office is whats important but in my opinion the person who is president is a symbol of our country, like our flag so I think the person is just as important as the office. If your thought was true however then the president wouldnt be protected by a mini army and slew of vehicles designed to keep him safe and alive.

since men never do harm to each other, and everything is done to take away our guns, I would have to assume this is a false flag to gain public suppoort over an elite forces so they can be eliminated before the 20 year war

so yeah just swear in the next puppet

Nope. That's pretty much it. The U.S. is a government run by the people, and the office of the President was designed so that the government could still run perfectly well without one for a while. He's not like a King or anything. He's just another civil servant.

we would have to pay a ransom to get them to keep him....

but it would be beneficial for American, now if we could get them to kidnap
the pres and vice pres then we would be MUCH better off...

hmm anyone know any kidnaper types? Maby we could raise a fund to have them take
the tyrant's some where else... we could do a telethon, Dollars for Tyrants....

Please call in your pledge to help fund these terrorist so they can take the president and vice president
and stuff them some where they cant do any more harm...

hmmm naaa on second though no one is that stupid to take them.... we would have to throw in a few
celebrities to sweeten the pot... *LOL*

seriously though, that would be a feat to pull off for anyone, just dont see it happening.

I believe the next person to be President, in the line of succesion, is the Speaker of the House of Representitives.
Currently John Boehner.

Whoever would take the Pres. would give him back....they wouldn't be able to afford his spending habits.

I think they should give him the exact same consideration...they gave to those in the Benghazi fiasco...

And isn't that a thought. Once he stopped crying and sobered up who knows what would happen.
But OP has asked a good question is the person important or the office. Actually in times of crisis it is always a calming for many people to here from the President.
