Them...(YOU KNOW WHO)...A Day In The Life Of Jim and John

[All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental]

It was a pleasant weekday morning and John decided he was going to see how much trouble he can cause at the expense of others. After he had his morning Starbucks Mocha Latte he instant messaged his group of friends who share interest in the same hobby of messing with people and asked them to join him in logging into their favorite internet forum.

By the time they all had time to gather and plan their attack it was nearing late morning. The planned target today was Jim, and his thread on a sensitive political topic. John and his friends don't like the fact that Jim authors threads on certain topics, even worse, they hated the opinions Jim shared while discussing these topics.

Previously, the night before, Jim created a thread about a bad man who used his position within the media to manipulate massive amounts of people over his radio show. This bad man who we shall call Mr. Weiner, had a large fan base and friends in high places. Mr. Weiner was caught falsely accusing a guest on his radio show of saying things that were never said.

Jim caught wind of this and decided expose Mr. Weiner as the fraud that he is with supporting evidence to back up his claims, including an audio recording of the false statements. John, a supporter of Mr. Weiner, was very upset about this exposure since John does not believe in the right to discuss certain topics and John and friends will do whatever necessary to stop any discussion on these topics, plus Mr. Weiner and John had some mutual acquaintances who shared the same opinions so it was rather easy to plan and organize their attack.

John and his colleagues then proceeded to participate in Jim's thread and post off topic deflections with the intent to ruin the conversation and cause uncivility which would eventually lead to closure of the thread, and John knew this as him and his colleagues have done this on numerous occasions to Jim and many other members as well.

What turned out to be a relatively civil thread, ended up becoming a cesspool of uncivility due to John's gang blatantly attempting to discredit and flame anyone who shared opinions that they disagreed with. Their attempts included as previously mentioned, off topic deflections aimed at messing up the flow of the thread to avoid discussing the real topic.

The site staff politely warned all members, not just John and his gang to change their tone or else the discussion would be closed as discussions on this site are meant to be civil. Regrettably, it seems these warnings motivated John and friends to ferociously continue their off topic deflections and character assassinations which then caused those who disagree with John's gang to retaliate (verbally) which lead to a second warning.

Jim was watching this happen quietly from the sidelines knowing what the final outcome would be...he has seen it countless times before. Due to previous experiences Jim couldn't help but wonder why these gangs were not disposed of instead of the whole discussion. In Jim's opinion, it would make much more sense to get rid of John and his gang for the greater good of the site, but due to some inexplicable glitch in the matrix, logic failed to prevail time after time....Jim started to wonder if he was stuck in the Twilight Zone.

That being said, Jim was right...his discussion was closed due to the tactics implemented by John and his gang. Jim was disappointed but not surprised.

Jim decided to call it a day and focus on his tasks at work for the remainder of the afternoon while John and his gang of deceivers continued to find other discussions to derail and eventually have shut down with their previously mentioned tactics.

Just another day for Jim and John.

Not even sure how I found this thread. But, amazingly enough, I think I know at least what it might have to do with, by remembering earlier post, and topics.

I don't spend near as much time on here, as I used to, but are things as cliquey and juvenile as you are indicating?

This is just a fictitious short story, but in "A Day In The Life Of Jim and John" they certainly are

Jim shall not get discouraged though, as many on this board see right through the tactics employed by John and his gang. The closer one gets to the truth, the more ferocious the "Johns" get.

It's a shame civil discourse can be interrupted by such juvenile behaviour.

We need more Jims and less Johns.

A Jim can act on his own as an individual while a John needs an entourage.

Poor Jim. It's sad to know that nearly every thread is like this for Jim. I'm surprised that Jim is the one who has time to go to work, as usually John is the one spewing ad hominems about how Jim 'has no life'.

Meanwhile, I believe John's actual job is to spew ad hominem attacks and derail certain topics in the hopes to have them shut down.

I like Jim. Most Johns belong on a street corner doing all manner of ill crap...Oh wait....that is where a lot of Johns are...my bad. The world needs more "Jims".....Johns are for "flushing".
