www.breitbart.com...

These people are so far out of touch, it is mind boggling.
The Govt subsidizes the cafeterias in DC and the regular people are taking lunches to work and eating leftovers.

Tar and feathering needs to come back into style.

On Tuesday, FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and her colleague VA Rep. Jim Moran openly whined about the impacts of spending cuts on their personal office budgets. Moran fretted that, with the looming sequester cuts, he may have to cut one staffer from his office. Wasserman Schultz upped his ante, however. She, almost literally, suggested that her staff were on the brink of starvation, due to the cuts.

You forgot the best part...

Wasserman Schultz's top aide earns around $160k a year. She pays two additional aides around $120k a year. She has five additional aides who earn between $60-100k a year.

Oh, poor babies...they may have to skip the caviar on the side...

If I were her opponent in the next election, this would be my only commercial....

It really is sickening what politicians are doing and get away with.

Well, golly gee... Considering she was the head of the Democratic National Committee when the White House came up with the sequestration idea in the first place, perhaps THAT would have been a dandy time to mention that it wasn't such a hot idea.

Unless she's hiring athletes though, her aides can probably stand to lose a few pounds anyway. We all could, I'm sure. Frankly, if we were to pull up their salaries and pay rate history? I'm confident we'll find they can buy a meal for whatever their heart may desire. My sympathy will be spent on others who deserve it....not political hacks playing for cheap points.

I really dislike her... lol.. In just the right light, she reminds me of Kermit the Frog too... Always has for some reason.

@ Gazrok

Thanks for the update.
You were typing salary while I was typing the reference to it, apparently. Similar thinking.

Maybe the reason they are taking their food is because the cafeteria food sucks. And what's wrong with leftovers?

Uhhhh, I was referring to everyone else taking lunches to work.

Are you defending this kind of crap thought by Politicians?

That's nothing.

Magpul Industries is moving out of Colorado.....cutting some two hundred jobs.

Because Schultz and the other Feinstein Wives want to outlaw the Second Amendment.

Sorry. No sympathy there for the socialist agenda in D.C.

I would first like to apologise for the colloquial term I about to use.

"Bitch, please!" You ivory tower whiners are the reason we are in this fracking mess to begin with!

The truly sad part, is that they and her really do believe that they are starving.

Just maddening.

Although I fully agree politicians should never be moaning about what their staff eats...its free food, right?

The rest of us schulms have to buy our own typically

In saying that, this is brietbart..so "almost literally" loosely translates to "not even remotely". their entire business model is to take everything out of context..and linking to other neocon rags that use the same out of context model doesn't make the case stronger
say a lie a thousand times, its still a g-damn lie and all that.

But meh..whatever. I am sure she said something slightly stupid overall...I don't trust anyone whom makes more than me anyhow

If it's the same as it was a few years back maybe 14 years ago. It was some of the best cafeteria food I'd ever had.

Actual quote:

At the hearing, for example, she said prices of meals in House restaurants are getting so high that aides are being "priced out" of a good meal.

Spin:

She, almost literally, suggested that her staff were on the brink of starvation, due to the cuts.

Still, a careless remark showing how out of touch she is.

When she's not in Washington complaining about cafeteria food, Schultz is on Miami Beach getting a tan....

D.C. is an expensive city to live in I'll give them that. I was assigned to the Military District of Washington for a while. However, I was a Major in the Army. Made 110K a year and we had more than enough money for nice housing (2000 sq feet pool nice yard), regular entertainment, two cars, weekly (if not more) meals at chain sit-down restaurants. My wife didn't even have to work and that supported a family of three with regular Disney vacations and Cruises as well.

Perhaps being liberals they are just too far in debt and all their money is tied up in their payments every month. 100K in the I 95 corridor is plenty to live a nice middle class lifestyle.

I imagine all her staffers are idealistic 20 somethings with no families - there is no way they are struggling on 100K +.

A government cafeteria?

Yeah, it's safe to say it probably sucks. Besides, D.C. is hella spendy, I think I paid damn near $20 for a lobster roll.

Starvation... not an issue when children go to bed hungry. But let a couple of yuppie staffers feel like they're having to pinch when their $450.00 lunch tabs come in and it's suddenly a HUGE SOCIAL PROBLEM!

Good God the humanity. What's next??? Having to shop in retail stores and buy directly of the *gulp* rack??? Just like a peasant???. Somebody in Congress better vote raises all around soon or it'll be chaos.

It's amazing how one off-handed, albeit stupid comment, without context can override the larger story.

It didn’t take long for a hearing on legislative branch funding to get tense Tuesday, with House Democrats blasting Republican leadership for authorizing $3 million in taxpayer money to defend outside legal challenges to the Defense of Marriage Act while at the same time calling for sweeping cuts to members’ offices, committee budgets and congressional operating agencies such as the Capitol Police.

I'm sure the video will pop up soon.

You got to be kidding me.... just look at this menu:

8oz bowl of Ham and Bean soup for $2.

You can buy gourmet sandwiches and wraps for around $5.

roasted stuffed Chicken, with asparagus and mashed potatoes, for around $7.

Or, one could opt for a heaping 12oz bowl of Chicken Chili for $3.

You would spend more eating at McDonald's if you ignored the Dollar Menu.

These are the types of prices I spend at the Employee Dining Room where i work and I am tankful for the prices. I actually do most of my eating at work.

A damned turkey sandwich is $9.95 here, and you have to ASK for mustard on it!
I mean, who doesn't like mustard?

Up on the oil fields in Alaska they have these things called "Spike Rooms", which are essentially a convience store that's open 24/7 and has stuff like pre-made sandwiches, soda, cookies, candy, chips...ect, ect.

Here's what they look like:

And the best for last...the ice cream machine!

Oh, I almost forgot...everything is FREE. Yep, everything. Just goes to show that when there's a lot of money to be made, no expense is spared. That's not even the cafeteria (which is also free).

Granted, the people work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off working 12 hour shifts...

They served all you could eat king crab and prime rib on the anniversary of the pipeline one summer. They had TONS of non-alcoholic beer. And no, no matter how many you drink you can't cop a buzz. (long story)
