I'd say it's advantageous to say that our battlefield enemies are decades behind us in military technology....and I'd add that it wouldn't be a bad idea to put them all centuries behind us in military technology.

Losing a war is only something socialists are good at doing.

So on one hand conservatives fear the government, yet with the other hand they want the same government to be decades or centuries ahead of the competition. For what??? To wage war with the entire world? The average person gains NOTHING from all this conflict, except for those that hold the lions share of shares in such industries and benefit from insider trading.

Also there is a point of diminishing returns. It would be an incredible shame to plunge america into third world status because democrats and republicans can't keep their nose out of everyone's business except in america where it belongs.

Ron Paul, a republican, wants many(or most) of the foreign military bases decommissioned and the troops returned home to protect the borders. He and a few other republicans and democrats are the only elected officials making any sense anymore. The military-industrial complex should be shrunk to reasonable levels. Unless of course they are planning on stopping some alien invasion as ronald reagan alluded to in his UN speeches.

With regards to overseas bases growing up I use to hear daily flights over my house something I have not heard in over 20 years.

Contrary to the vilification of MIC long ago in a galaxy far far away we did actually use to have bases in this country.

But guess what?

The Democrats just love to close them to the point during 9-11 we had foreign aircraft patrolling our skies!.

Some people sure do love to say move those bases back home but that is pointless because the left will try to close them last time they succeeded but I am at a loss here tho.

The Mic is evil us bases are evil shrink the military if one does that how the hell are there suppose to be bases here?

But then again that is where politics come back in to play the Democrats don't want the border secured future voters come that way.

What good is an over-bloated military indusrtrial complex just to keep people employeed? I can say the same thing for carpenters, electricians, automotive assembly line workers, plumbers, tinsmiths, blacksmiths, custom shoemakers, etc.

Of course I feel sorry for people losing their jobs but one has to look at the big picture to see what benefits society as a whole and what keeps people employeed just for the sake of preventing them going on welfare.

Create and maintain job opportunities where they are needed. Everyone else can learn a new trade or go on the government's dime. The military industrial complex is just one industry. There are many industries that are more useful/necessary.

Only those who know nothing about defense, it's systems say its "over bloated".

No its not that internet your using right now that gps people love to use in their cars and a multitude of other things people use in their everday lives come from defense spending, and those who make those products, who employ millions of other products made that all generate tax revenue that pays for the nanny state.

But who cares GUT defense, and say its for the people, and when people start dropping bombs on them, or flying planes in to buildings oh well guess that was just tough luck.

America comes first. This should not be a left or right issue. It is a common sense issue. As for the democrat incompetance issue of leaving the borders unprotected I certainly agree. What happened in arizona is hard to forget.

I was trying to say that the cuts should be selective and not across the board. What we need we keep and what is wasteful should be cut. If we were close to a zero defecit then perhaps I would have more tolerance. And I don't support israel because they never took their national security seriously and play the holocaust card to keep siphoning american funds. It is like a 6ft5in male in perfect health playing sick so that he can collect coins at times square. Same analogy.

Well, Timothy McVeigh was in fact targeting the Federal government in relation to Clinton's attack on the 2nd Amendment, Ruby Ridge, Elean (sp?) Gonzales, Waco, Clinton's treatment of US military personnel; and the overall progressive movement that looked very aggressive during those times. Let me catch you up, so the Southern Poverty Law Center found out about this crazy group of anti-government followers living in a secluded spot in Elahiem City, OK. They, SLP and the FBI, sent in an operative who funded the actual purchase of the elements to build that ammonia nitrate bomb under the watchful eye of the AG's office ran by Janet Reno and Eric Holder. Guess what, someone forgot to watch the rented van that ended up being the bomb and boom. I would say you could lay some blame on the Clinton administration and the rest of Timmy. All and all, the Clinton's had the NSA, FBI and CIA call out against his treatment of these agencies while a series of scandals came to light making the Clinton's not to pretty in the bright lights of DC. So they, the Clintons, backed off a lot of the dangerous governmental interference that they had been creating after ole Timmy did his deed. Terrorism is something that we Americans have never really dealt with to any degree like other societies, so we are extremely susceptible to its influence.

With all due respect, friend, this IS a LEFT issue. You might be correct in pointing out the LEFT/RIGHT false paradigm but you fail to distinguish from REPUBLICANS and THE RIGHT. The false left/right paradigm explains the ridiculousness of the 2-party system. That doesn’t mean there isn’t two distinctly different visions about how this country should be run.

Its tiring to keep explaining this…which, I assume, is why the attrition rate of ATS members is so high. There is a RIGHT and a LEFT. The confusion arises in the fact that there is no RIGHT party because Republicans and Democrats are, as you pointed out, one in the same.

Ok Sea, humor me. In what direction does the ''right'' want the country to be led? Same question about the ''left''. I'm asking because I'm neither, as I tend to go with my own leanings.

People that identify themselves as democrats/liberals tend to make decisions based on emotions and not facts. They tend to be the biggest purveyors of "knee jerk reactions".

When these people get frustrated they lash out irrationally with verbal attacks and violence. Look at any discussion thread on ATS. 90% of the nasty comments are left by these people. Go watch MSNBC for 20 mins I guarantee you will hear a liberal democrat spew some inflamatory, emotion based, factless garbage.

If prisoners (convicted criminals) were allowed to vote the vast majority would vote democrat.
