What happened on Halloween!?

On Halloween night here on ATS, there was a lot of stuff happening.
Reports from all over flying in about fireballs, AFB alerts and such and such. SO posted an image of choppers in Manhattan, and people were getting a bit paranoid.

Then someone started a thread called "Wtf is going on?" (or something like that) which questioned all of this. Also at the same time, another thread was created questioning all the events wondering if maybe it was all a Halloween hoax made up by ATS.

I just looked today, and the "Wtf is going on?" thread as been deleted. I am asking what actually happened? Was it a hoax? Was something covered up? Please somebody, fill me in - I am confused. Nobody seems to be discussing it anymore.
