I've never understood this logic - why does a belief in god give you the greater in-road to morality or conscience?
As a doubting Thomas I put a huge importance on the sanctity of life mainly because I doubt that there is anything once it's gone. I don't go to
bed each night thinking that I will, one day, be united with the people I have lost.
More importantly if the only reason someone is "being good" is because they fear eternal damnation what does that say about the person to begin
with?
This not meant to reflect an opinion on your friend - just random thoughts. Are you sure he's not playing devils advocate - no pun intended -
