I'm shocked to here that an invasion has taken place and there is little or no coverage in the main stream media.

I don't know about the media source But I encourage people to read the article.

Could it be that the source is making it all up or over-egging? If it gets serious then I sure it will be reported, but there are 101 different regional tiffs goiging on it would be impossible to cover them all.

Ahhh !!! Okay, why does this seem to be the new " Hit " thing with elections. We need a war on something for someone to get elected. The state of the world just makes me want to dig a hole.

Well according to the RAF/Bader-Meinhof statements of the past. one of their slogans was: "Kill 1 and scare 1,000"
Means have a bit of a skirmish and the "sheeple" will ask the Gvt. to protect them.

Terrorism 101. Written by our own Military, how fantastic. It's a sad world, where the people are so dependent on the government that's supposed to serve us, that they now tell us what we want. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but come on. Doesn't everyone else think of this crap? Maybe I need to take a break from ATS lol

The OP is an exaggeration, there have been claims that 10s of thousands of Militants on are the way in little boats but I dont think its true.

There was a major operation by the Army on the 6th but little else since then, at least in the Malaysian media.

Its not major news in the west but to be fair its not really Major news in Malaysia either, it gets a few pages at the front of the main paper but then thats it, no one is talking about it here and no one really cares.

This is not seen as a threat or anything worthy of note, The people in this thread are more interested in this than your average Malaysian LOL.

Im also somewhat skeptical on the Global research article, Malaysia is a fairly corrupt country, the Bersih Rallies it is referring to were about open and honest elections and both major parties were represented not just Ibrahim supporters

Ah the game is afoot eh Watson?
The puzzle is who is doing what tome whom for what underhanded reasons ?
How will Australia feel about this?
China?
The invasion news could be pretext or counter pretext could it not?
Maybe it wise to see what really happening over the next while....
10s of thousands sound pretty wild......................

Now that the Philippine government and MILF(the Moro Islamic Liberation Front is a breakaway group from the MNLF who signed a peace pact sometime in the 90's) are close to signing ending several decades of war, it seems somebody is pulling another string to make this region as troubled as it was.

Seriously? They're called "The MILFs"?

Probably inappropriate, if they're a terrorist group, but...

Invasion of the MILFs!!!

No doubt another Mossad coup. Malaysia has an openly anti Zionist and anti Jew point of view.

Crazy and interesting that this happens the day after the Philipino UN Peacekeepers were taken hostage by the Syrian terrorists. Was it a set up or a message? Starting to seem more then just a random act of violence after reading about the invasion into Malaysia by a group of terrorist that are supported by al-Qaida who also happens to be involved in the Syrian conflict.

Maybe I'm reading to much into this but wow talk about odd timing and coincidence for both events.

Things are starting to look weirder and weirder each day.

You could call it an invasion I suppose. It's not like getting to Sabah is difficult from the Philippines. You just need the money to pay for the boat ride. They don't check any passports/IDs going back and forth from Sabah.

I'm not really sure why the need for this to happen now. Sabah has so many Filipinos living there, and to my knowledge Sabah even pays some kind of tax to the Philippine government. I think this is just to draw attention to some issue to be a talking point for elections this year.

As for the police here (PNP, Philippine National Police), they are awful. They are very corrupt. The only way they would ever do their job is if there is money involved for the personally. This is not always true, but they blunder most every operation, and really are just there to shoot at something if possible.

One time a cop pulled over my taxi because I was drinking a beer in the back seat and it was dangerous. He wanted money. Another time, my friend was involved in a hit and run, and he broke the cars windshield. When they got to the police station, my friend was put in jail and the other guy let go. They wanted him to pay ~$5000 usd to repair the windshield. He got out of that one after a call to the embassy and a night in jail.

Don't for one minute think the PNP are the good guys.

Will they keep the island and settle with it or are they going for the Petronas?

Wow... this is a very weird and somewhat bold move by whoever planned this - I wonder the reason.

well one reason that i haven't seen mentioned yet is that this is another territory dispute. and yet another possible example of one man's "terrorist" being another man's 'freedom fighter". it seems that this may be that the "Sultan Jamalul Kiram III". and family want their kingdom back. the "rebellion" forces are apparently being led by the sultan's brother Agbimuddin Kiram.

Although largely forgotten and dismissed as a vestige from a bygone era, Kiram’s sultanate sparked the biggest security crisis in Malaysia and the Philippines in decades when his younger brother early last month led about 200 followers, dozens of them armed, by boat from the southern Philippines a short distance away to a village in Sabah in the vast, oil-rich Borneo region to claim the land the sultanate insists belongs to them. The Kirams claim Sabah has belonged to their sultanate for centuries and was only leased to Malaysia, which they say pays them a paltry annual rent of 5,300 Malaysian ringgit ($1,708). Malaysian officials contend the payments are part of an arrangement under which the sultanate has ceded the 74,000 square kilometers (28,000 square miles) of Sabah territory to their country. Philippine presidents have relegated the volatile feud to the backburner despite efforts by the Kirams to put it back to the national agenda. The Feb. 9 Sabah expedition by the sultan’s younger brother, Agbimuddin Kiram, and the ensuing violence have resurrected the long-dormant issue with the murky history beyond anybody’s expectations. seems to be another "stolen land by the British and we want it" back case similar to what we hear from the natives of North America from time to time.

A Filipino sultan later leased Sabah to a British colonial-era company. The territory was later annexed by Britain. In 1963, six years after colonial Malaya gained independence, Sabah voted to join the new Malaysia. Read more: globalnation.inquirer.net... Okay so a few hundred Terrorists, have invaded a Malaysian Island? I hope they brought supplies. How do these terrorists plan to restock their ammunition/food supply?

Does Malaysia have a military/police/anti-terrorim force to deal with them? I know the philippines do, and they certainly don't # around. If the Philippino Anti-terror group or military goes after them, they will all be dead in a short time. No resupply for the terrorists, and the Philippines are notoriously hard warriors. The philippines is one of the few places left that take being a cop to the utmost seriousness. They serve and Protect their people, and are not afraid to die to do that.

If you've got the time check this out.

THe Philipines sort of support the 'terrorists', they have a dormant claimt to Sabah through the sultan of Sulu. The 'invaders' or 'terrorists' are ethnically the same as many of the locals of Sabah, thus there is strong support for them among the civilian population.
My take is they are trying to throw of the oppression of Malaysia.. Britain Leased Sabah from the Sultan of Sulu a hundred years ago or so, then assigned the lease to Malaysia..

The rebels are claiming the lease is void.

So basically some extremist group launched their own Bay of Pigs? Yeah, that didn't work out too well for the CIA, so I think those Jihadists are basically screwed.

How dare you...

I will have you know, this is Not a laughing matter! Sure you may laugh now, but what if this sort of thing keeps happening? What if we are unable to stop it with our failing economy and stretched thin military? The MILFs around the world are starting to see that we cannot protect the whole world anymore...

So you tell me, joker, what are You going to do when a MILF, or maybe even an army of MILFs, comes to your town, and knocks on your door, ready to pounce on you like a pack of wild... I dunno... wild cougars or something? I know you probably talk a big game, think your some tough guy... I mean sure, any one of us could maybe take two or three MILFs at a time, nooo problem... But a whole battalion? I mean, come on, let's get real... We need to stop these MILFs before they- oh, I didn't read the rest of your post, these are actual armed fighters we're talking about here? Not the other American Pie MILF? Oh, thank god, I thought for a minute there that the MILFs had finally unified and began to take over, like in that nightmare I keep having... Ok, well, my bad. No worries. We got this. Carry on.

the Malaysian military has brought in aircraft AND ARMOR to confront the audacious, bizarre invasion

So are we talking chain mail, or like, ballistic groin protectors? I mean... and armor, seriously? The linked article doesn't even mention armor. It just sounded funny when they put it like that... Aircraft, and armor!
