I was going to say that, but you beat me to it. Building on yours, I would like a holodeck.

Yes, a holodeck. The holodeck uses replicator and transporter technology anway, so after magma gets the replicator -- I can have my holodeck (assuming someone else picked transporter tech).

I know way to much about Star Trek.

ETA:

Why the hell don't we have programs that can design and build other programs? I should be able to tell a computer the parameters are for the software I want, and it should be able to code it and hand it back to me.

Is that to much to ask for?!

I don't want to see it. I realize where it all leads. The future is for those who can afford to sustain their selves. That doesn't include the majority of us "useless eaters".

Sustaining a healthy youthful state for people should be the highest priority imo.

I was semi-joking with the lightsabres
I do need one however ^_^ Druscilla's list is how I actually feel.

I disagree with one thing you said.

There is no such thing as knowing too much about Star Trek.

Since we can't seem to stop being violent towards our fellow Man, I would like to see personal force fields that eliminate injury or death due to violence or accidents at a cost of $10 or less per unit. Of course the Government and Police forces would never allow this to come to fruition because they would no longer be able to use violence or threats of violence to force the people into compliance.

Violence is a lot better than it used to be, to be fair.

Oops. Forgot one. Just thought of it now: I think a good one would be to sustain human life longer.

It's a bit idealistic, but I want see technology being able to resolve the problems that we have in our environment, something that will clean the polluted air.

I would love to have the glasses/scope needed to show the people who claim they can tell a contrail from a "chemtrail" by just looking, that they are just looking at contrails.
So many times now they seem to believe they have spectrometers for eyes.

To quote Lewis Black....

It's 2003! Why can't I teleport?

Replacement bodies; human 2.0
Replicator tech or anything similar that eliminates poverty.
FTL or something similar enabling practical economical feasible interstellar travel.
Any technology that causes the extinction of the concept of money, and the current standard of socio-economic-cultural status and bias.
Clean, free, sustainable end-user available energy.
Technological singularity and beyond.

Edit: I'd also love to see a cure for mental illness, and religious fanaticism.

Oh yeah. Forgot to ask...what exactly would "human 2.0" be? Other than replacement bodies. Any new and cool abilities?

Human 2.0

Technological singularity and beyond.

I believe Druscilla meant it to mean post-human in that sense. So all the unforeseen advancements of 'singularity and beyond'.

I'm waiting for something that can record dreams, even if it can only get the images. There has been rudimentary research into the subject, but it seems there's a long way to go before this can become a reality. I can imagine people posting them on YouTube, etc. Or maybe someone will create DreamTube. It could happen

Exposing the window to the subconscious in waking life.....

That would be incredible but I wouldn't be surprised if that destroyed marriages and maybe even civilization!!

It's like a diary on steroids. Definitely wouldn't want it auto-uploading to your Dreamtube account!

Soon we will be asking who is going to save us from all these new technicle wonders that will replace us, and do our jobs.

With all this new technology what will you do to earn money? What will your kids and grand kids do?

edit on 27.06.08 by spy66 because: (no reason given)

Perhaps money will be eliminated. However, that's a thought as well. If we have all this tech...will we do anything? Sometimes I think Wall-E will become a reality. Becoming so reliable on technology that we become so overweight and can't do anything for ourselves. I mean, they were video chatting with people next to them. How would they kiss them? Have some kind of machine simulate kissing?

Paper money will be replaced by didgets. But money will never be replaced. And the system we live by demands that the public always must be in debt to its system. We will always be in debt for the technoligy it produces for our consumption.
